Firewall blurb
« on: April 16, 2013, 08:37:48 AM »
Since new D/L, each time I log in, I get the "Zone-Alarm/Firewall" blurb.
It flashes at Arena screen, then disappears.
I don't use Zone Alarm & A/H is an allowed program with Windows Firewall.
Anybody else have this?

Sometimes you will have to remove aceshigh.exe from the firewall database, as the program you said is okay is not longer the same one you are running due to updates.

Some firewall databases build a checksum for the entry so it can prevent them from running if they get altered, which is what we do every patch.

Skuzzy, I think you answered another question than the one ozrocker was asking.

I noticed it too, but it was too fast for my aging eyes to see what it was. Now that ozzie gave a clue, I finally could get a glimpse: Right after clicking "Online arenas" a window pops up, giving advice to re-enable AH in ZoneAlarm or other firewall program. The problem is, this splash screen now only shows for a fragment of a second, not giving the slightest opportunity to click any of the buttons within.

Good thing is, it doesn't affect gameplay unless such a firewall is used and the user is unaware of this firewall feature.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

I am getting this as well...and Windows firewall is disabled on my machine (I dont run any host based firewalls).

I've also noted some really horrid (for me) ping times to the various MAs but not the DA since upgrading.  Ping times for the MAs are in the ~110 range, while DA is at 65ms range which was normal for me prior to the update.

So rather than blame the update I ran PingPlotter for the various arena servers (i.e. 206.16.60.38-41).  The route hops taken from my home network to the HTC servers are exactly the same, but for the MA servers I noted dropped packets along the route while I did not see this for the DA server.  Very odd...higher load on the servers perhaps...but why would that impact dropped packets at a router halfway along the route?  Sorry guys....I'm more of a systems admin than a network engineer or a developer.

I'm getting this as well, doesn't matter if a firewall is up or not: The firewall window pos up for a brief moment when connecting.

On top of that I have a custom arena issue: When I create one it will at one point during the process say "connection lost". Then I get all the loading and initialising bars before dropping back to desktop. The arena has been properly created though and I can enter it after reconnecting.
This only happened with last update, and it is also independend from my firewall.

I should clarify my prior statement - PingPlotter showed ping times exactly the same for all the arena servers....which is different than what I see within the AH arena browser i.e. the various main arenas show the high ping times, the DA ping times are lower.

I too noticed the blurb briefly flashing up with the new version, but then it continues normally.

Same here. I get it even when I disable Firewall, which I don't like doing. Any word on a solution HTC?
