New Doctor
« on: May 21, 2013, 09:54:17 AM »
I see that there is going to be a new Doctor.  Any bets on who frags the current one?

I think it will be more of an exploration of the Doctor's dark side, which he appears to have suppressed after what he did to trap the Timelords and Daleks in the Vortex to end the Time War, rather than a "new" Doctor replacing the "current" Doctor.

If you have amazon prime, you can catch up for free.  It'll take some time though...

You really do need to start at the beginning to understand it.

I think starting at the beginning is what hooked me.  Due to time limitations I'm only on episode 7 of the first season, but that first episode hooked me.

i don't think they're getting rid of matt smith. i think there's gonna be crossing timelines with an evil doctor(john hurt), and the "normal" doctor(matt smith).

the doctor's been hiding a VERY dark/nasty side since the last season with tennent.

Do you mean the original first season(1963), there were 26 seasons in the original run then it was cancelled in 1989.
I used to enjoy the show when I was growing up in the 60's but never really got into it when it came back in 2005,
my son is a big follower of this new style show and I tried watching it but it never kept my attention for long.

Some of the early episodes with the 1st Doctor (Hartnell) seem to be lost for good or something.  Netflix does have a lot of the older stuff from the John Pertwee, Tom Baker era and later, but the stuff from the 1st and second Doctor seems to be very, very hard to find.

My first exposure to Doctor Who was with Tom Baker on PBS reruns back in the early 90's.  I've watched a lot of episodes from all the eras I can, and Tom Baker is still far and away my favorite Doctor.  I don't feel like anyone else has captured that dry wit like Baker.  I think they had better writers back then as well (ie Douglas Adams).

Also I just don't like the current format of 45 minute short story episodes...  It used to be that a good Dr. Who story would take several episodes to play out, the short stories all seem to be rushed, with very little character development, and just a lot of crazy antics and running...  I wish they would allow each story the time it needs to be done properly, whether it's 1-2 episodes, or 5-6....
