CorelleWare truths
« on: June 11, 2013, 07:00:24 PM »
There are few sounds as decisive and FINAL as the sound of a corelle dish dropping 2 ft to a granite countertop and exploding. Also, this always happens BEFORE eating, not after. Also, a small corelle dish, having dropped 2 ft to a 3 ft tall countertop, will release enough energy to propel shards over 30 ft. Also, that 30 ft will be in the direction of the baby's "safe" area.  Also, travertine-look tile does a great job hiding white glass shards. Socks on feet are a great way to find hidden glass shards and carry them around the house until they ask to be dropped off again by getting stabby.

Dow Corning needs to get together with the guys who make composite ceramic bulletproof vest inserts to come up with a formula that is just as durable but does not fracture quite so thoroughly. Bulletproof kitchenware - I'd buy it.

When contemplating counter-tops for our kitchen remodel...

"Don't you know that granite gives off radon?"

Says my buddy's wife.

Who grew up surrounded by mountains

In the state of New Hampshire...

Otherwise know as "The Granite State"...

    :old:

FACT - All natural products, especially stone, minerals, and sand, contain trace amounts of some radioactive elements called NORMs (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Mineral) that can produce measurable amounts of radiation and sometimes radon gas.

This includes all concrete products, clay bricks, most non-plastic plates and dishes, coal and the flyash produced in coal-fired power plants, natural gas (contains radon), phosphate fertilizers used in your garden (ALL contain potassium and small amounts of uranium and thorium), and the vegetables grown using those fertilizers. The Border Patrol often catches truck loads of marijuana because it is loaded with radiation producing potassium), all glass made using silica (even eye glasses, wine glasses, mirrors, windows, etc.), and granite too.

and those that need a pie chart......

I know this.

I found her statement thoroughly amusing and Eagl's story 100% truthful.

I live in an area where there is so much radon from the ground that people either need to build elevated houses or install radon pumps to the base of the house to fulfill safety limits. There's a crawling area under my house which ventilates the stuff away.

Have you ever crawled in the crawling area?

Yes I have, when improving the insulations for example. Why?

I dropped a Corelle bowl about a year ago and yes it does shatter. I couldn't believe how many tiny pointy pieces it broke into.

I'm willing to bet that there are still pieces that you haven't found.
