Went to the TA today, asked BigRat why I keep losing...

... consistenly to 5% of pilots.  We fought a bit and he gave me two observations:

  • Be patient, the shot will come.  Don't be greedy for it.  Always remember "Greed kills"
  • Try and stay high above your opponent.  Make him come up to you.

We shall see, but they both seemed like excellent insights.  Thought I'd share for the benefit of others. :joystick:

 :salute BigRat :rock

... and thank you for taking the time to help. :aok

would have to disagree with point 2,   flying the high lines all the time increases your chance of survival but doesnt help whatsoever when the chips are down, your in a bad spot and you have to fly your way out of it and turn tables on your enemy.

seems like alot of fresh people out of the DA like to fly very loose and go for height rather than angles,  just makes it a boring repetitive fight if I open with those merges.

Ya can't win them all Midway. Besides, if you're winning 95% of all your dogfights I'd say that was pretty damned good.

But I should be able to win 50% of the time against the top 5% with enough practice and knowledge.  I have not seen the best pilot(s) do anything I can't do, it's just a matter of when, what, how, and why.

PS:  i just woke up, read this, and posted out of habit before reminding myself and realizing that today I will not post on BBS or ch200 as a day of silence to honour SD67's wife, him, and his kids.  So with that I will not post for the next 24 hours.   :salute SD67.

does it seem odd to you that most of the times I kill you with ease your always piling in on me with more speed and alt?   I use your extra energy against you when you then yank and bank.

I'd only partially agree with the second point if applied as an always rule, but I'm also not the guy landing loads of kills just yet :aok

I'd restate it as staying higher most of the time while making your prey loose E and/or watching for their mistakes is generally wise, but sometimes other approaches pay more. A slice attack angle (from a lower alt angle) is sometimes a better option and other times (against planes that can hold a tighter AoA for longer) all you may be doing if you wait for them to come up is following them around all day as they turn under the majority of your passes.

There's a weird, fluid sweet spot between being too aggressive and not aggressive enough, we've all witnessed this in our own successes and failures as both the bouncer and the bouncy. If we can learn to read where that spot is in our relative situation we'll likely play our cards right and end up the victor. Pardon my spelling I'm very tired and typing from my slow iPhone.

Is there already a thread or what was that gentleman's name? I think condolences are in order.  :salute
