P-38 RPM Gauge Weirdness
« on: June 29, 2013, 11:46:39 AM »
I noticed the rpm gauge on the P-38s is a bit wonky.
The rpm needles for the left and right engines aren't working independently.
An engine shutting down (even manually) the rpm needle will not drop to zero.
Using shift-1 and shift-2 to set manifold and rpm separately on either engine the manifold needle will stay put after switching engines but the rpm needles will be mated. Even though the engine power to the unselected engine doesn't seem to change the rpm needles will look like one.
Finally just for fun I took off with one engine at WEP and the other at minimum RPM. In this condition I would see split needles. If I exercised the low speed prop the RPM needle would rise but not go back down again. Each little bump in rpm made the needle rise, but each little decrease in rpm it would not move back down. This would continue until the needles were mated.
