When ever I could punch in a name on a game I called myself Maddog Joe. When I started Air Warrior there was already a Maddog so I shortened it to MDJOE. Of course every one kept asking about free medical advice.... well until they tried what I suggested  :devil I hung on to the name when I started here as there was a Maddog already grrrrrr. The whole time I was in the 444th Air Mafia and ran the squad for a number of years. We had a motto, "There is only one way out of the Mafia...." So when I stepped down I changed my name and became "The Fugitive".   :D

My parents met in 1943 at Lockheed Burbank, on the P38 assembly line. Mom worked on the gun cabinet & Dad worked on the nose gear. She would drop things, on or near him, so that he would have to hand them back up to her. She was flirting with him. By today's teminology I guess my mother was a "cougar".

As a kid growing up, I told my parents I wanted to fly a P38. Sadly they informed me that they didn't make them anymore.

Thanks to HTC I finally get to.

And so, since I only fly P38 Lightnings and my last name is Ryder, I came up with LtngRydr.
My noseart is Betty Page in a devil costume riding a lightning bolt

As for my BBS name that comes from a long time ago, about 50 years.
I was told that God does not make mistakes.
Therefore, I must be one of his experimental models that didn't make it into general production.
So I must be a 'lab rat'. the numbers are my birthday.    :old:

The humor of the name. "You have been shot down by Tinkles".   It's even more funny on the VOX when friendlies call a check then afterwards say "change your name man"  :rofl

A long time ago, there was a game called Wing Commander.  You had to make up both a name and a call sign for your pilot.  I liked the story of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi (saw the cartoon version).  So I gave my pilot the name Rick Tavi, and the call sign Mongoose.

So years later, I used the same call sign for my WWII pilot.  When I was flying Warbirds, the call sign could only be six characters (at least, back then, I don't know about now), so I spelled it "mngoos".  Not everyone figured it out.  "Mongoose" fits just right here at Aces High.

40 years ago my buddy introduced me to his dad as Fred.   His father had lost most if his hearing in WWII and called me Frod by mistake.    I've been Frod to many folks ever since then.  Incidentally , my friend's father's hearing suffered flying fighters.   14 kills.  For the Luftwaffe on the eastern front.  He gladly surrendered to the Americans and lived in Florida for the next 45 years.  I learned of this after his death .  A humble, thankful immigrant.   He never said a word and he never flew again.

Shane: A gun is a tool, Bob/Marian; no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.

Shane: You know,  I like a man who watches things go on around. It means he'll make his mark someday.

Shane: Joey, there's no living with... with a killing. There's no going back from one. Right or wrong, it's a brand. A brand sticks.

Shane: A man has to be what he is, Joey. Can't break the mould. I tried it and it didn't work for me.

Joey: Shane! Come back!

“What a man knows isn’t important. It’s what he is that counts”
― Jack Schaefer, "Shane"

The book and the movie line up fairly well. The two quotes in red... SA and, yeah I'll come back.  :devil  Other than a lone guy coming in to "save the day" and riding off into the sunset... I can't claim to be like the character, lol. The first red quote stuck with me I guess.

Probably shoulda went with DQuixote...   :noid

I chose Zoney because it is a nickname given to people from Arizona visiting San Diego which is our popular vacation spot.

I played with that name for 20 years.

Then, I wanted a change and wanted to make a commitment to JG11 and Luftwaffe pilots.  I wanted to also make the commitment to Luftwaffe aircraft exclusively.  So I chose Hartmann, the greatest ace the world has ever seen with over 350 kills, and a survivor of WWII.  Frankly I was shocked when I typed in "Hartmann" checking for available names and it was there.  Grabbed it, shoved it inside my jacket and ran from the store.
