A growing FSO trend
« on: August 17, 2013, 04:31:31 PM »
And it's a good one.  I'm seeing more and more squads setup custom arenas for FSO practice on Thursday's and Fridays before the start. Last year there was only a couple of squads I saw doing this, Now It's not uncommon to see 3 or 4 arenas open on these nights. This convinces me that FSO is alive and well in the Aces High community, and I'm glad to see that :aok  Long Live FSO :rock

What was even better was when ImAdot had his open practice arena setup when the custom arenas first got implemented. Sometimes the practice was even more fun than the main event.

Which is why AvA should mirror events as much as possible.  :aok

AvA is it's own arena with its own agenda, which is great. I really should spend more time there. They shouldn't "mirror" the FSO for the month, instead maybe use setups that utilize a similar planeset for one side per week, for those looking to new planes. For example: This months FSO is BoB, the AvA doesn't need to be BoB as well, instead maybe a rotation of perhaps Rangoon, Operation Barbarossa, then Egypt 1941. Having setups that cater to FSO practice may bring in more players, but I also understand why the AvA CMs want to do their own thing.

we are in discussion about running the next months FSO setup in the AVA the Last week of the month on a regular basis. this would give people a reason to come in and practice, the maps and planesets would be the identical, but there would be a few differences in settings. if that terrains are not available to us, then we could just run something similar as far as the terrain goes.

it would run into the first week of the month so that the setup would end on a thursday night and friday would be the first frame of the fso anyway. we are also building missions in all our maps so we could have some preset missions for you also. if this is something that would work for people, please let us know, so that we can bring it back to the AVA staff for discussion.

also if we know a large groups would be in the AVA, we can customize settings to cater to that group if necessary.

Would you make the settings the exact same as FSO in the AvA for this?  It is an excellent idea.  I think some wouldn't adjust too well to the "no icon" thing though it is fun once you get used to it...
