Increase icon range on GV's when they are firing.

Why gvs should have a icon range increase when they are moving, and not when they are firing?

Well if they didn't leave a puff of smoke then they shouldn't here either. I think the icons are fine. In fact it makes me consider it into mission planning. A few days (maybe weeks) ago I took off with a wingman and suddenly he called out "BREAK RIGHT!" In our group when someone does that its automatic. In fact it usually results, as it did this time, in dumping any stores under the wings, and really cranking the plane into a violent maneuver.

Fortunately, as I looked back, this time was right on, as a steady stream of tracers were coming up right under where we had been flying. A flak was a little bit off of the runway and almost got two for one. No, I think it is fine. I like that I need to find a terrain feature to identify where that bugger is so that I can avoid or line up on him.

the flaks would still have that moment of surprise when it fires for the first time, but once it fired the momentum is gone and it should be spotted. After a cooldown period (1min?) the icon would go back to normal.
Same applies with tank, a tank firing should be easily spotted by any plane.

You can follow the arc of the tracer backwards to get an idea where it is.

The only change GVs need to to change the friendly GV icons to match the enemy GV icons range limitations.

I doubt that in real life, the tracer is the only thing showing firing GV's location.

if you shoot with a main gun or a flakvierling you are going to produce smoke, sometimes shooting, even with a low-pressure gun, you can not see if you hit your target or not because of the smoke.

My ammo last for 6 Lancasters, or one Yak3.

Im sure that people on the ground can perceive more than tracers from the tank.

If done, this should only be done for GV icons as seen by aircraft.  GV icons as seen by other friendly GVs should still be visible at long range.  The latter crudely represents the prototype's common maps, map references, etc.

I vote NO.

I enjoy the fact that I seem to pick up on the location of enemy gv's long before most other people.  I'll up a Stuka G-2 and leisurely grab alt and then zoom in towards their spawn point and slowly scan the ground for that tiny spec that is out of place amongst the trees, barns, hedgerows, carts, and shrubs.  Often I'll hear someone ask "How do you see that???", my reply is always the same: zoom and scan and be patient.

I think changing the icons to 600 and 1200 for gv's was a good thing for AH.  It gives gv's their due, they were not easily seen in WWII and they shouldn't be easily seen now.

If you test the Wirbel's 20mm offline against the offline target, the range at which it last will make hit sprites is 1700. The ostwind is 2700.

First the question has to be answered: Does the point at which rounds offline stop making hit sprites on the offline target equal the point in the game at which the code stops allowing the rounds to be destructive entities?

Then if so:

Wirbelwind max range = 1700 yards
Ostwind max range     = 2700 yards

To which this request seems more fair to ask for individual icon ranges of 1800 and 2800 if you are attempting to keep aircraft from being shot out of nowhere. Even with those ranges the reaction time will still place the aircraft in danger flying over or trying to gun the wirbel or osti. It would benefit dive bombers and rocket attackers getting up to 300mph.

I think tanks per say need their current shortened icon ranges to balance game play. Wirbles have become as much of a gamey problem as the once hated lancstuka carpet bombing brigades used to silence them. The pendulum swings out of control to the whims of unintended consequences.

*Note*
Historically 300 or a bit faster was found to make the accuracy of rockets reliable. And so late in the war steeper AoA. This is supported by the structures of rocket aids and late war hand books. Except the rocket in the Yak7B needs to fired at an angle for the best accuracy along with pinpoint accuracy due to no real concussive power per Russian information.

Actually, the only person I know of who shoots from GVs with tracers off is me, and I can't hit anything as a result.  Also, even in my case, I have the suspicion that opponents can see them anyway, and tracers off only works for AC tracers.
