The first time I ever heard of "Bud" Day was on a sultry day in September 1988. I had just arrived at my first duty station at Homestead AFB, Florida, with the 31st FW. Outside of the headquarters building, sat a static display of his F100 Super Sabre. At the time, I wondered who he was and what was his significance. It wasn't till a few years later as my enthusiasm grew for reading war history that I knew.
