Your Handle's History
« on: September 07, 2013, 09:43:59 AM »
Hello Fellow gamers,

I am returning to aerial combat MMOGs for the first time in 9 years. I left IEN's Warbirds in 2004 due to the constant bickering and poor customer service. Over there my handle was, and still is, Banshee. Upon enrolling in AH I tried to get it here but sadly it was taken. So I racked my brain to come up with a handle that a "johnny come lately" like me could get. I am a huge fan of Soviet Cold War era jets and being primary a bomber guy (I stink at furballing) I thought it would be appropriate to use a NATO identifier. I also wanted to use a Soviet bomber that was sleek n sexy, fast but not well known outside of the Cold War aviation enthusiasts.

So I selected the Tupolev Tu-22 "Blinder" and I was pleased, but not surprised, to find the name available. So here I am.  :salute

I also enjoy flying Virtavia's Tu-22 in FSX and VATSIM. Though if you try to go supersonic over the CONUS the ATC's yell at you!

So what is the history behind your handle?

Fighter pilots win glory .... Bomber pilots win wars.

Nathaniel was my name in Ultima Online Beta and Final in 1997/98.  It's from my GG grandfather who fought in the Civil War, Nathaniel Sanderson.  In UO I ran with the guild "The Regulators" and had epic battles against guilds such as The Mercs, Pluggers, Obsidian Order, and more.
BEAT DOWN POSSE formed in late 98 to dominate the classic jet pack first person shooter TRIBES.  Shorted to NathBDP.  BDP later went on to compete in Rainbow 6 and Rogue Spear on the "mplayer" gaming client/community which was later bought by Gamespy. Ahh the good old days.  Started flying Aces High in late 99, flew with The Knights Who Say Ni! with DMF/Honch and later joined BKs when some of those guys left for Everquest or whatever other mmorpg there was.

The name NathBDP will always be synonymous with a wanton disregard for authority and willingness to sacrifice everything for honor in battle.

I started flight sims in Air Warrior on AOL. I had always used "Maddog" as my name in any game that asked for a "name. When I join AW there was already a Maddog, and as you could only use 8 letters MaddogJoe was out of the question I choose MDJOE. Soon after starting AW I joined the 444th Air Mafia, whos motto was "There is only one way out of the mob, in a pine box". When AW was killed by EA  :furious We came to Aces High were there already was a Maddog again, so I stuck with MDJOE.

After leading the squad for a few years I got to the point that even after stepping down I felt I was expected to be a team player, and lead the squad. I found it to restrictive and wanted to step away and fly rogue for a bit, but there was that motto  :noid

And so I became the Fugitive   :D

I'm still a mobster and always will be.

When I joined Warbirds the handle I wanted was already claimed.  I was studying ancient Egyptian history at the time and took this name from the Karnak temple complex.  The Egyptian connection is why I put the eye of Horus on my BB avatar.

Mine is well, not very interesting I'm afraid.

Reaper, well, that's obvious.... as a new subscriber and not even a green n00b yet I picked a name I thought would be synonymous with killing..... how original!  :lol

90 has always been my number on my racecars, going back to time trials with the Corvette, and later SCCA and NASA with the Acura then the Honda.

If the BBS let you change your handle, I'd have changed both not long after starting to something with some historical significance. But I didn't like the idea of one name here, a different name in-game.

With a 90+MPH Fastball, a circle-changeup is simply the finest pitch in baseball.

Its deceptive, moves extremely well, and makes hitters look foolish whilst flailing at it.  Seemed appropriate since I am not deceptive, don't fly extremely well and have never made a con look foolish.

When my husband played Air Warrior, his handle was Zebedee, named after a character in a popular TV series, The Magic Roundabout.  Zebedee was a Jack-in-a-box character that would announce "Time for Bed" at the end of each episode, and my husband chose that name partly because he 'kept bouncing back' to AW (played on dial-up so was expensive, with high phone bills!) and also after the way he would bounce down the runway when landing his favourite plane, the P38.

I would often watch him playing - though in the early days I was more concerned about the phone bills!  In later years, after AW went to Gamestorm and with the pressure of high phone bills eliminated, I began to take more interest especially when he told me he thought he was going to be invited into a squad one night.  I had no idea of the depth of the game until then, and watched as he went online and met up with Spiff in Cz HQ.  After a few flights, the invitation was made and he became a member of the Krait Squadron, and I was fascinated by the whole event!

I wanted to be part of this new world, but didn't think I would be able to fly so for a while I just watched.  Then it was suggested I might like to play even if it was just driving vehicles and maybe gunning bombers and I finally decided to give it a go.  When it came to choosing a handle, I wanted something to associate me with my husband, so decided to go for another character from The Magic Roundabout.  There were only two female characters and, not wanting to be called after a cow (Ermintrude) I chose Florence.  This was shortened to Flos (Floss was taken and I didn't want Flo, though I was often called that by people who used the Short IDs) for the CPID which could be no more than 5 letters.

Since moving to Aces High I extended Flos to Flossy and have been Flossy for the last 13/14 years (in other games as well as this one!).   :old:

When I joined AW on AOL in '96 I tried all the birds of prey names, Falcon, Eagle, Hawk, etc. but they were all taken.  I settled on Crash since that was the most common outcome of most of my sorties.  Not long after signing up I joined the Red Barons squadron and everyone's name had to start with ^ so, to fit the five character limit I changed my handle to ^Crsh.

About two weeks after joining the squad the CO left turning the squad over to me.  We grew to about 60 members but I never eliminated the ^ requirement.  As AW transitioned to AWII then AW3 and changed ownership our numbers declined until, when I moved here as EA pulled the plug on AW, I moved alone.

When I got here I decided that going back to Crash wasn't a great idea as that name had been taken in AW during the time I was ^Crsh so I decided I'd try the bird of prey thing again.  Guessing the most obvious choices would be taken I thought, well... I'm bald and I fancy myself a bird of prey so how about BaldEagle which I shortened to BaldEagl to fit the eight character restriction and low and behold it was available and that's who I've been ever since.

These days I'm less a bird of prey than a preyed on bird so a change might be in order.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Banshee!!  Glad you found your way here man, welcome to the game, hope ya love it as much as I.

I played as Zoney here for over 3 years then decided to Join JG11 and make a commitment to Luftwaffe only aircraft.  I wanted it to be a strong commitment so I decided to change my handle and now Fly proudly with JG11 as "Hartmann", the worlds leading fighter ace with 352 kills.  When I looked to see if the name was taken I was amazed that it was not so I grabbed it.

JG11 does not recruit.  We do accept new members on a trial basis and after a bit you can decide if it is the right squad for you and we can decide if you are the right pilot for us.  Squadron CO is "Stampf".  I always like playing with you in Warbirds and respected your gameplay or I would not even mention to you anything about JG11.  You must make a commitment to Luftwaffe aircraft exclusively.  Like in Warbirds there is a fantastic historical scenario operation every Friday called "FSO", Friday Squad Operations.  It is even better here then there and JG11 is a very strong participant in that endeavor.

FYI, if you remember me from WarBirds let me assure you I have completely changed in how I treat my fellow players.

Again, really glad you found your way here Banshee, now know as "Blinder"  :salute

A lot of people think I took my handle for Shifty Powers of Band of Brothers fame. I couldn't imagine using a handle for a game in reference to somebody like Mr Powers. I have too much respect for him. Actually I use Shifty because it was the callsign of an A-10 pilot I was dedicated crew chief for while serving in the 333rd FS at Davis Monthan AFB during the late 80s and early 90s. The callsign also became the name for our A-10 ser number 770284.

Back in the good ole days when they were still green.  :D

:airplane: Welcome to the game sir!  :salute Kinda silly what I decided on for a game name, happened to see a Early Times ad in a mag I was looking at as I was trying to decide, then decided my old high school basketball number might be in good taste. The 19 in my forum name was my high school football number, so ET37 or Earl1937 will get my attention.
Blue Skies and wind at my back and wish that for all!!!
