Continuation War

The Continuation War (jatkosota, fortsättningskriget, 25 June 1941 – 19 September 1944) was the second of two wars fought between Finland and the Soviet Union during World War II.

At the time of the war, the Finnish side used the name to make clear its perceived relationship to the preceding Winter War. The Soviet Union saw the war as a part of its struggle against Germany and its allies, the Eastern Front of World War II or, as it was known in the Soviet Union, the Great Patriotic War. Germany saw its operations in the region as a part of its overall war efforts of World War II. It provided critical material support and military cooperation to Finland. The United Kingdom declared war on Finland on 6 December 1941, followed by its dominions shortly afterwards. The British declaration of war on Finland during the Continuation War is a rare case of democracies declaring war on other democracies, although no hostilities ensued between the two parties. The United States, like many other nations, did not fight or declare war against Finland.

Acts of war between the two countries started on the day on which the German invasion of the Soviet Union was launched, 22 June 1941. Open warfare began with a Soviet air offensive on 25 June 1941. Subsequent Finnish operations undid its post-Winter War cessations on the Karelian Isthmus and Ladoga Karelia and captured East Karelia by September 1941.

In the beginning of 1943, No. 24 Sqn was down to 24 operational Brewster fighters. At the same time, a new unit was formed. No. 34 Sqn was formed to incorporate the new Messerschmitt Bf-109 fighters. It also recruited the best pilots from other units, among them many of No. 24 Sqn's best pilots, i.e. Ilmari Juutilainen and Jorma Lukkanen, who had 34 and 14.5 victories respectively. The Soviet Air Force was continuously modernized. The No. 24 Sqn participated among other in the defence of the Gulf of Finland, where they met the aircraft of the Soviet Baltic Fleet, who recently had mounted an offensive. Captain Hans Wind received the Mannerheim Cross on July 31, when he reached 31 victories.

I sure hope that ground action isn't common in the AvA.

Putting the T-34/76 and M4A3(75) against the Tiger I and Panther VG?  That isn't "ground pounding", it is a slaughter.

This from a group that won't put the Spit XVI against the 109K-4 and 190D-9 for balance reasons?

is this coming from experience or assumption based on hardware? we've had some pretty wild battles with these types of setups, but you never seem to be there for them.....why is that???

Here's an idea.  Since you are so passionate about balance, how about using your knowledge base, research etc, and develop a "Balance Table" that can be referenced by all of the Admins in Aces High when developing setups, scenarios, etc.

You know me. I cannot help myself but leave a few Easter eggs every set up. It's not like fireflies in the night or storch's carrying babies in the air.  But a few. ;)

Easter eggs sometimes help balance gameplay.

Unfortunately for the Soviet forces in 1943 those tanks were really there causing the Soviet army lots grief until the heavier Soviet tanks started arriving in 1944 and the development of more lethal air to ground weapons for the IL2.

No, I saw that and noted it as an anomaly.  You guys are a lot more liberal with the use of the Mk XIV.  Given it was far less common than the LF.Mk IX/Mk XVI yet you guys use it a lot my guess has been that was based on either 1) misinformation about Spitfires, something the AvA staff exhibits disdain, 2) because it is less of a problem for the German stuff to deal with or a combination of the two.

AvA is empty, not low numbers but literally empty 100% of the time that I log on.

It is more fun to point out the current cabal's constant bias and laughable idea of balance than make a post that would just be ignored.  The, on the face of it, reasonable explanation about not using the Mk XVI due to balance issues is wholly revealed as base bias and hypocrisy when you give the Soviets the M4A3(75) and T-34/76 against the Panther V G and Tiger I.  Balance apparently only matters to you guys when it adversely affects the German or American side.

Soviet Army
T-34/76
M4A1
M-3/16

German Army/Finnish Forces
StugIII(sub Jag38t)
Tiger I
Panther

Wow.  Mister Fork... try that offline.  The T34/76 cannot penetrate the forward armor of any of those tanks at any range* and cannot even kill them from the flank or rear unless it closes to very short range (<~1K for Panther ~1.5-2K for Jag38 and less than ~500 for Tiger I).

*OK.. at point blank range (<200 yds) and using HVAP the T34/76 can kill the Jag38t in two shots if you hit a very small area below the glacis, so if the Jag38t player is off getting a beer, then yes, maybe the T34/76 could get a kill.
