The Ltn. Joachim Weber
« on: October 05, 2013, 08:54:44 PM »
Joachim Weber shot down three Mosquitos (two Mk.IXs and one XVI) while flying an Me 262.

This will no doubt prompt debates over Kurt Welter. The "33 Mossies" story about Welter is not credible - he no doubt shot down some, but how many were his, how many were his unit but attributed to him and how many attributed to him by post-war researchers "salting" their results is unclear. Weber's can be demonstrated, and were all during daylight hours, so much better for AH I believe.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB
