training arena campared to FSO arena
« on: October 06, 2013, 11:33:49 AM »

I had a squadie e-mail the following and have no answer for him. I had  my arena setting's to that of the FSO's to be better prepared
and has you can see, there seems to be 2 different performance levels in the 38 depending on what arena your in. Just trying to get an explanation for him.
 Thank You

First, I have never had a screen lag in the FSO. I have a top notch box with 8gig onboard and video 2 and 2.5 gig. All running on a commercial account at high speed, three monitors, two strippers, and a....did I say strippers, well there just for show. But basically a rocking box.

Second, In this FSO the 38 did not perform as it do in practice.

Example: in practice I took the 38 to 12k, put it in a 45 degree dive. It started to shake at 425, and no control, I let it go to 500. I then cut engine and recovered at 1200 ft.

In the FSO then I nosed down 7  degrees to chase off an enemy, as I approached the enemy I encountered the lag for 5 second then found myself in a 15 - 25 degree uncontrolled dive at 20.5k at a speed of 380 and climbing. I cut the engine. The uncontrolled dive continued to less that 1000 ft. off the deck. As I pulled out I was shot down as the enemy was on my 6.

At the least we should be getting an explanation.

Thank You

Re-do your test. I believe they reload the terrain early enough to do so.

Wieser buddy, look at your post, you tested at 12 yet in FSO you were at 20.5K!

I assume you are talking about indicated speed and the true speed is what you need to watch!

The arena settings are slightly different, the TA has damage reduced to a minimal amount, basically 1000 bullets equals 1 bullet but that is the only difference. In the SEA they may have a couple things setup, killshooter off, wind, etc. but none of these things effect A/C performance.

As for the lag spike you saw, well it could have been on your end or on the enemies end, either way that's an internet issue and AH can do nothing to fix it.

If you want to find out who has the connection issue, open clipboard map, right click and select net status, look at top graph, varience and delay,if you have the problem it will show a saw tooth "spike" if it's a nice flat line then the other guy has the issue.

Hope that answers things for you, come look me up in the TA if you wish to discuss this further.

Morfiend is correct that you have to watch the little red mark (TAS) on the airspeed meter to know how close you are to compressing and the mach buffet.  Going 380 IAS (white needle) at 20.5k is about 525 TAS.

Thx Mach!   I wasn't sure what the exact speed would be at 20K but guessed it was over the critical mach number.

You really have to watch the 38's acceleration downhill *especially* up high in thinner air. It'll start compressing ---fast! Most pilots that fly it regularly don't fly it as high as it's used in events so yeah--it'll seem like it's acting differently but it's really not. Test offline for yourself. If you're in the L with the dive recovery flap better hit that before you're heading down. It won't have much effect once you get going. Do NOT use combat trim. It's only gonna help you fly straighter and if you're heading towards the ground at a high rate of speed---that's bad! Have your elevator trim mapped so you can get to it easily. Kick full rudder in the dive. You should be able to recover sooner than that.

The *last* thing you want to do is cut the engines and here's why. With the engines running, even at idle, the spinning prop discs will give some degree of drag and will actually help you slow down. With the engine dead the prop in AH "feathers" giving almost no resistance to the airstream and you're just a plummeting brick! It's been proven time after time that killing the engine will definitely NOT help you slow down (except for the WW1 birds). Idle is more better.

As to the lag you experienced that could have been anything. I have a great machine on a cable connection and every once in a while something hiccups. It happens. Usually at the exact wrong time too! I mean unless that's something you've been able to duplicate?

thxs guys,

I never took alt into consideration, that would explain alot and as for the lag I know he runs a top end system and has never had that problem before. Thanks again for the response's and I see you in the air.

Remember that lag isn't only caused by the player's computer; it is also caused by the data path between players and the HTC servers. Neither the players nor HTC have any control over the data integrity once that data leaves the computer and heads out onto the Internet. Bad switches, bad routers, over-allocated networks, all can cause dropped packets and can result in lag.

be smooth on the controls at 20k. very smooth. be very careful letting your nose below the horizon. you'll compress in a couple seconds. everything takes more time, and more room up there.
