Already playing around with Logger32. K1ing has been helping me get into it.

Was a conversation out of PA and TX the other day talking about the odd pinball machine sounds on the air. Guy explained that it was two stations talking. The high pitched three was one and then the low pitched three was the other. Always hear that around here. Being 6500 above sea level helps bring in some signal. A canyon system to the south of me funnels a ton of DX out of Mexico.

I run a DX94 Galaxy in my construction truck. Our company uses VHF radio but we don't clog it up with directions. The Galaxy comes in handy when I can hit all the trucks on the job with directions from 20 miles away. When they try to talk back they can't get above all the DX I am getting. Yeah I am actually hearing Europe with a simple Predator.

Will be taking the General test soon. Not sure how far into the hobby I will get. Friends Yaesu was damn expensive.

There are metric/imperial TONS of ham rigs on ebay.com that aqre used--and reasonable.  Brand new state of the art rigs can be $3,000 to $10,000 each--not including accessories.  On ebay a decent used rig can be had for $100 to $400.  100 watts and a decent antenna (made of wire--cheap) can garner you world wide contacts.  Either message me or go to arrl.org and look for ham clubs in your area.  Most hams are helpful, cordial, and will go above and beyond to help you beyond belief.  We are a service of people and will you run into jackwagons sometimes?  Yes.  The best part is that there are 5,000,000 other frequencies to use.

As a licensed ham can you communicate on 60+ computer modes, Slow Scan Television, Fast Scan Television, talk to space shuttles, satallites, AM, FM, Side Band (LSB USB) as well as teletype.

When you have a 30 minute chat with someone who turns out to be your relative from "the old counntry" what little studying is well worth it.

Editing last while you posted LOL

I have a dipole that K1ing built and gave to me. I will put it up when I get my license.
His setup is wild. The actual ground plane lays in the grass at the base of the antenna. Automatic tuning also. No more cutting an antenna like in mobile apps.
Already have a MFJ-249b for test equipment. Charge the guys at work 10 bucks to tune their whips.

Sorry we hi-jacked ya Ghi

I spoke with ghi today and this is right down his alley--the is a long haul trucker and experiences radio conditions most of us dont.  (ghi--Please PM me with your email so me and the wife can buy you lunch or dinner.)

Again, if you need any help with getting your ticket message me and/or arrl.org and look up licencing or clubs and ask for test help.  If I can do it you can do it.  Looking forward to working you on the air  a: )

HAHA talk of the linears bring back some memories. I had a '67 mustang with a royce setup, power mic, and a set of boots under the seat (200 watt).
At highway speeds, key the mic and the engine would miss. lol
