river cruise to france
« on: November 01, 2013, 08:29:10 AM »
Dear old Mom took me and my siblings on a river cruise to France last week.  I would love to go back some day and see much more - including the girls - ooh-la-la!  :devil

Took a ton of pictures with my discount camera.  Some of them have a bit of blur but most are pretty good.

Normandy Beach: http://s343.photobucket.com/user/caldera_08/slideshow/Normandy%20Beach

Includes the US D-Day cemetery.

Paris: http://s343.photobucket.com/user/caldera_08/slideshow/Paris

Various architecture and monuments, as well as the Louvre.

Rouen and Les Andelys: http://s343.photobucket.com/user/caldera_08/slideshow/Rouen%20and%20Les%20Andelys

Includes Castle of Richard the Lionhearted - and even zombies!

Giverny and Conflans: http://s343.photobucket.com/user/caldera_08/slideshow/Giverny%20and%20Conflans

Monet's humble digs.

Versailles: http://s343.photobucket.com/user/caldera_08/slideshow/Versailles

The flowers were all gone for the season and the fountains were off, but you get the gist.
"Then out spake brave Horatius, the Captain of the gate:
To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.
For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."

Very nice!  Back in '98 when I was in sales, work sent me on a 5 star vacation in Paris for a week.  Loved it there!

Viking.  Unfortunately, they didn't feature any Viking food.  ;)

What no Viking drinking horns full of ale! That is inhumane! ;)

But how was Viking? Thinking of doing a river cruise next year and haven't decide with who yet.

It was my first river cruise, so I can't compare one outfit to the other.  I can say that it was a better overall experience than ocean cruising.  Can't find any faults with the service and the food was really outstanding (best lamb chops and duck ever - by far).  Also got unlimited wine/beer with meals, which was a good little bonus.  Best vacation yet.

Normandy was part of the cruise or did you start/finish there?  Have you got a route map?
Some will fall in love with life and drink it from a fountain that is pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain

We started with two days in Paris, then one in Giverny and Vernon.  Then Rouen, Normandy, Les Andelys and back to Paris for Versailles.

The Giverny and Conflans slideshow is mislabeled.  It should be Vernon, not Conflans.  Too much wine has affected my memory.  :old:
