LAN Question Regarding v 2.11 - Please Hear Me Out
« on: November 04, 2013, 08:53:19 PM »
I hope I don't get banned or deleted for asking this but...   I am a paying player returning after a long hiatus.   I have two teenagers I am trying to get addicted to AH II like I am.   I have 2.11 and want to set up a LAN game so I can show them how the coms function, teamwork, etc. before shelling out another $30 a month.  Offline practice is okay but it isn't giving them a feel for what it is like.

I have multiple computers running Win7 and all have AH 2.11 running.   For some reason, however, when I try to host a LAN game nobody can see the hosted game.   No matter which computer hosts, no other machine can see it.   Is there anyone who can help me out?  I figure if I can get them to play it against me for a couple of days they will want to try it online.   I would like to bait the hook so to speak and let them kill me a few times before unleashing them on the world.  LOL

Thanks in advance.

Here is a link that may help. <S> to Brooke for the info.

Here is a link to AH2124 the last version with H2H.

And the HiRes Pack it you want it.

Thanks.  Will give it a shot.

I referenced that page with the instructions and haven't had any luck.  Will try it again.   The author at that link claims it won't work any more, but I see no reason why not.

I think they will get hooked.   But yes, they're animals, these two.

I did a quick search of H2H and that is what came up. You may find other info on H2H with a more in depth search.

Although Brooke's old article (referenced above) does have a lot of helpful information in it relevant to using older versions of Aces High (Version 2.12.4 or earlier) on a LAN, the bulk of the article focuses on use across the worldwide Internet. That old feature required host support that is no longer available from HTC, so you might as well ignore the parts that mention router configuration, etc.

Pure LAN mode does still work with those older versions as described, however.

Vraciu: All of the computers must be connected to the same IP subnet. This means that there can't be any NAT routers between them. Ethernet Hubs and Ethernet Switches are OK, but not a Router. Firewall software in any of the computers can also cause prevent an AH client from contacting an AH host (or vice versa).
