10 stages seems like overkill for the Mun buddy ;----)

anyone messed around with making space planes? The flight model is a bit weird in atmosphere, but it's awesome putting huge boosters on one and seeing if you can get fast enough to start burning up.
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

I've seen a couple of space plane designs that allow for a flight to Duna without having to refuel.  The only issue I would have is to actually land the bird, twice.  1st landing would be at Duna with the 2nd landing back at KSP Runway.  The thing is, my planes like to fall apart upon landing, if they don't explode in the atmosphere. :bhead

Wow I find it hard to believe it has been almost 38 days since our last path. We should have release another 38 versions by now  :bhead

with a bit of nifty engine control it is possible to make a VTOL plane. I cant say I've ever made it to duna in one though

I've taken spaceplanes into orbit, docked with space stations, and returned them home on the runway. It's pretty simple. You essentially need two aircraft in one. The first one, the booster, will bring you to around 20k with a lot of air intakes and only jets. Decouple from that with the plane itself, and fly until you have a stable orbit. The spaceplane (second vessel) needs to be rocket powered. Another option is to make a space shuttle off the launch pad. .... That never ends well. Too much lift there, thrust here, center of mass is off...  :uhoh

I was going with the brute force method.  Aim pointy end of rocket at mun.  Burn till you get there
I have yet to figure out how to actually set and use specific burn times, speeds, angles....Maths are hard :uhoh

Until you find out how to do that, orbit Kerbin until the Mun comes over the horizontal horizon. Then burn towards it. 90% chance of a mun encounter  :aok

I've been giving it a go. Not exactly at the grand super size scale yet, or complete.

I started designing a ship in Space engineers, and after a couple of hours I got a message stating I'm out of memory and I can not build anymore  :bhead

looks good  :aok, taken my first as far as I can go.
Time to think about my next ship. After reading the forums, putting the engines in an internal room seems to be the way to go

why bother to even play the game if you're going to use MechJeb to cheat and take away all the challenging/rewarding parts?  :huh

I feel cheap just using maneuver nodes, but I sure as hell couldn't get anywhere without em ;)

Flying in space with a rudimentary computer is "cheating" ?  Guess all the Apollo guys are nothing but a bunch of lame-o cheaters then...
