Hordes and the game dynamic
« on: December 02, 2013, 06:06:46 AM »
Yesterday I flew with the bish for a little while. I started out bish and flew with the biggest horde squad, rolling thunder. I had forgotten what organization looks like. The took off, stayed disciplined to their assignments and dropped base after base. Granted it took over 20 of them, but they worked together and had fun. Rooks are also capable of putting together large missions with a hierarchy, knights not so much. So what does this all mean?

Nothing has changed since I started to play, the numbers of subscribers / players is just dropping. Everyone who plays has a certain niche they enjoy, some just want to land kills others seek a good clean fight. In the end it's whether or not you find value added to the game. Play the way you want. Enjoy it while it lasts. There are no solutions to hordes, HOrs, collides, lancstukas, etc... If there were we would have them by now. From a pot calling the kettle black pov, get over it, it is what it is. Every side has the numbers to put 20 on a base they just lack the will to do so and are content to whine on the Bbs about hordes.

Lastly I would say that I too am on the fence about continuing my account, (i cancelled my sons he just does not play often, he enjoys other mmo) because you just can't change human nature. I enjoy the fight and sometimes lose sight of human nature and others desire to win at all costs regardless of whether or not they fight for their kills. A 30 minute mute yesterday for responding to a troll just confirms that when you get too immersed, well call it passion for the game.  :salute

I don't post as a rule for obvious reasons, but there is a solution to the hordes! First off try numbering the amount of plains avable at each field. Then if 1 goes down, you have 1 less of that type till regenerated. Also number the amount of plains that can take off at 1 time. In reality you could not launch 20 plains at the exact same time, they would take off in waves.

I wonder if players that are against hordes set the K/D ratio too high in their priorities?

A base defense can be very exciting and rewarding when you push them back.  The K/D will take a beating.

Taking a hard defended base is equally exciting and much more rewarding than taking a base that is lightly defended.

What I dislike is a base attack without any attempt to capture the base.  Nothing worse than someone sitting over a deacked field shooting lifters on the runway for perk points.  Could be the number of auto-ack should be increased to make it more difficult to de-ack a field.

I find myself gravitating to where the red dar pops up. The Rooks are good at getting a defense going if there is enough lead time before the incoming wave takes out the hangers. All sides get a good attack force (horde) up though the Knights seem to come unprepared with mostly in fighter mode not attack.

I for one do not limit my enjoyment of AH to capturing a field, I do not need it to feel like I have self worth.  I think it is too sad that so many players will sign on time after time and limit themselves to 3-4 planes, 1-2 kinds of "missions" (20 man horde or 30 man horde).  AH has so many things for players to do and accomplish that I actually feel sorry for those who have tunnel vision enough to not see the big picture. I understand that not everyone can enjoy the full spectrum, some players just have to have that FPS "insta-action" and "winz" in order to feel fulfilled in their experience and to each their own.

I for one find no enjoyment in partaking in a "mission" with overwhelming numbers in such that there can be no defense.  What is the point? Where is the fun is watching the troops run in to the map room with absolutely no threat?  Again, to each his own.  I'd rather have precision and clockwork be the name of the game with win/not win by a split second.

About the only enjoyment I get when dealing with hordes is being able to legitimately intercept them (co-alt and high E before they get within attack run range).

Bottom line is game is what you make of it. If you make it to be all negative then that is what it will be. Same holds to be truth for the positive aspects of game.

If you allow yourself to get bogged down in the traps of....they Hoed me, its not fair, they vulched me, they btarded me, that country Hoarded me, you are missing the bigger picture and dynamic of the MA.
You are only in control of one person ...yourself use it to your advantage and influence the people around you in positive ways.

The things being brought up such as hordes and the above, etc have been around since day one...will not change anytime soon and are not exclusive to any one country person or personality. The only issue seems to be the people who wish to complain about it instead of upping to meet the enemy in the sky or on the ground because its easier to come to BBS and complain about.

Quoted for troof!!

I feel it's up to the community to deal with this.  When squad CO's tell their players to stop dweeby play, then it will get better, not before.

As far as hordes go, meh...  As other have said, grab some friends up a 262, and watch the cockroaches scatter  :x

Great plan except 262:s are not free even in worst of hordes. Many people lack the perks.

Pick different friends :)

Seriously...  There are many ways to stop hordes in their tracks, and it doesn't require massive perk rides.  It's not always "fun", but it's satisfying if that's really what you get off on.  Some things that come to mind
  • Kill ords.  No ords, mean base takes are much harder
  • Kill troops. No troops, means no base takes. Kill Barracks also means no resupply
  • Kill key VH's.  No vehicles slows resupply.  Sure, it's only for 15 minutes, but they may choose to hit the other side if their march is stopped.
  • Goon hunt.  No troops at bases where vehicle spawns are, means they have to fly them in.  C-47's are far more vulnerable and easier to spot than M3's.
  • Bomber hung.  Up from base further back, get alt and bomber hunt
  • the list goes on

Most hordes don't have the staying power once you halt the advance.  They usually look for easy targets, and when they meet resistance they falter.

There are far too many wonderful perk farming planes in the hangar for this to be a valid excuse.

You're totally wrong. I could barely stack together 300 perks in my past 2 years of playing and I flew a LOT of brewster etc.

All it takes is one loss of a 262 and it's 6 months again before I can fly one (edit: would be if I still had an account). Yeah I used to have 5000 perks untill I changed my name ingame one beautiful evening, many years ago.
