Custom Terrain on Custom Arena
« on: December 08, 2013, 04:15:29 AM »
The custom arenas are sort of replacement of H2H that AH had in old days.

Once you could create your own terrain and put it into H2H game-play.

However if I look today into a dropdown list of the terrains in Custom-Terrain Creation menu, I can't find my local ones.

Is it possible to create a custom arena with a custom terrain without submitting it to HTC. For example for debugging purposes with several players?

No.  The system has been designed to install the terrain if it is not found on the client computer, so it has to be installed on the download server in order for it to be available for download.  The server also needs to know about certain aspects of the terrain in order for features (resupply, clouds, custom objects...) to work.

Thanks for the answer...

if so I have another question.

Once there was a restriction, if the terrain changes, it should have a different name, otherwise it wouldn't be updated by the clients who downloaded it.

Is it still true, i.e. if I want to release an update for an existing terrain I should rename it like terrv3?

I think I know what you are trying to do so I'll answer to that end.

After your terrain has passed all the internal TE tests, you can upload it to the server with the included ahupload.exe utility in your C:\Hitech Creations\Aces High Editors\ folder. Don't forget to check the box that says Upload or that part of the process won't happen.

Afterward, you will find a host folder inside your terrain folder, and so long as you don't loose that folder and it's files, you can update and re-upload your terrain as often as you like. However, if you update it while players are using it in any arena, it will crash their arena.

It's actually best to keep the same name so try to pick the name carefully.

Thanks! I'll check it!

I've seen the upload utility but got confused as it was talking about missions.

Thanks for the help...

Originally I didn't realized that resource uploader can upload terrains as well I thought only missions.

Successfully uploaded isrv1 terrain.
