high altitude combat achievement
« on: February 18, 2014, 10:57:02 AM »
Last year I had the pleasure of shooting down Midway at 43,000 ft. It got me thinking that there should be an achievement for getting a kill fighter vs fighter at or above 40k.

Not because I am trying to promote combat at such an extreme alt, but because fighting up there is insanely difficult compared to the normal AH 0-20k range, and that seems deserving of an achievement.

"Then out spake brave Horatius, the Captain of the gate:
To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.
For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."

How about we encourage players to waste less time climbing and more time engaging in cartoon combat? -1

Revo, this is about adding achievements, achievements do not always correlate to the combat you want it to be.

And I am saying I feel this achievement is not needed.

There is a historical event this achievement could be attached to:

On 12th September 1942 Pilot Officer Emanuel Galitzine in a stripped-down Spitfire intercepted a Ju-86R at 43,000 ft over the Solent in the UK. After hitting the German plane with a single 20mm round one of his cannons jammed, making accurate gunnery next to impossible. So the Ju-86R escaped, but operations of this type over the UK were immediately halted by the Luftwaffe. This was the highest recorded air combat of WW2.

I'm sick and tired of guys who have more patience than me taking advantage of my lack of SA and killing me with an alt advantage. -1

You say patience, I say compensating for a lack of skill.

I very rarely die to the alt monkeys unless I am already engaged with multiple cons. I would just rather spend my time fighting then climbing up to 25k+ only to have little girls like you dive for the nearest ack.  :)

Flying and fighting at alt is a whole different ball of wax, I say +1. Also, you don't like guys flying at high alt? Tough sh$$, it's a game filled with aircraft, 50% of them flew at or above 20,000ft. I wish I could be so single minded as to say people who fly high are somehow in the wrong or dicks. No one is bashing you for flying low. What gives you the right to say people who fly high run to ack when low?
