Ok, I admit I don't know what this is about with Pierce, even though I watch CNN regularly.  What happened?

CNN was going to fire Piers because of low viewership.

Piers, anticipating the end, said, "OK, now that the game is up, I might as well admit it.  I've been using my position to promote socialism, to gloss over its glaring flaws amply shown by history, and to spread disinformation about freedom, free markets, and the other founding values of the US.  It seems that this was my undoing."

Hearing this, CNN immediately issued a statement:  "Knowing that he shares the core values and goals of CNN, we can no longer fire Piers regardless of ratings or viewership.  We are happy and proud to announce that we are keeping him as a valued member of the CNN team."

 ;)

Let's not forget Red Dwarf...

I've heard that it is great, but it's one that I've not yet seen.  I'll have to rectify that deficiency at some point.  :aok

Careful, Brooke... The walls have ears. Dislcaimer: In no way am I implying that Piers Morgan is a property rights-abrogating collectivist piece of dim-witted scum, nor that he or CNN have any interest in framing the National Debate.

Oh for the days when they'd come right out and join the CPUSA... Damn fabians...

No one watched his show. He had a brief spike in ratings (for him) with some "guns are bad" schtick but it quickly fizzled. Seems he's burned all his bridges at home with his cell phone hacking tabloid trash before the Brits unleashed him on us.

Yes, I know.  I have seen parts of some episodes, so that lifts me off zero, but only infinitesimally so.  I shall work on rectifying this egregious state of affairs.  :salute

Me too - I'm a triple alum: two from UM, one from Stanford. My dream is that the two face off in the Rose Bowl some day. I won't be able to win - but I won't be able to lose either.

Red Dwarf: Netflix carries every single episode. I'm a bit of an Arnold J. Rimmer fan, myself. I think you'll generally find that most people identify with Rimmer, Lister, the Cat, or Crichton.

Ann Arbor is a great town, although it can grate. Consider if F.A. Hayek lived in Madison, WI...

I would not be able to have the same dream.  I did my grad work at Caltech, and I don't think that they will ever make it to the Rose Bowl.  I liked Stanford a lot when Harbaugh was the coach. :)

I am a big fan of Hayek (and Thomas Sowell).  I have the same issue living near Seattle (and previously San Francisco and LA).  I'm definitely an outsider with respect to economic philosophy, among other things.

I miss Zingerman's and the Blue Nile.

What do you do in Ann Arbor?

I just live there. I work in "Dearbern" for the Blue Oval. That one, and Day-twa, are an even more foreign brand of "other side" for me. I think of Detroit as a City Stuck on Stupid. BTW, Everybody I've met from CalTech was pretty damned proficient. Given that you live near Seattle, I'm going to guess Boeing. My boss - a Director here - is a former Boeing weights guy. It was a long time ago but he was 737. You could say we like to steal talent from there.

I worked for Chevy Engineering for a few years as a summer student while I was an undergrad at U of M.  It was a great experience working there.  I grew up in Troy, Michigan; so I share your dismay concerning the state that it's in and can amaze my coworkers with Detroit stories. :)  There is a good book "Detroit:  An American Autopsy," by Charlie LeDuff (a Pulitzer-Prize winner when he worked at the NY Times but fell out with its leftist agenda and went back to Detroit, where he was from, to write for the Detroit News and to work on a novel compilation of his Detroit experiences).

I'm in biotech, but there are a lot of Boeing and Microsoft folks around the area.
