Saxman, that BSG movie has been on the burner since before the recent series ended. It's been bounced around from director to director, JJ Abrams was singed on to direct at one point, there have been TONS of script re writes as well. We'll see if it ever gets truly green lit, I think they waited too long to cash in on the momentum from the TV series, but who knows, it's a great basic story with a huge bible of information, and a lot of potential stories. From what I've read it may not be "canon" as compared to the recent TV series, and likely won't have any of the same actors, and may even depart in terms of the regular characters. We'll see I guess as it the development gets more publicized. After the disaster that was "Caprica", a lot of studios are gun shy about it though, as that proved the other side of the coin, that even super successful stories with huge success can be turned into crap by poor writing/producing/acting/etc.
I was hoping that the Blood and Chrome thing would have been picked up, but again, they messed with it so much, and took so long, and released it in such a strange way, they really shot themselves in the foot ratings wise, which unfortunately is what getting picked up is based on for the most part.
Fantasy and Sci Fi are on the upswing though overall, last night Game of Thrones had 8.2 million viewers on opening night, a 20 percent increase from last year, which is insane numbers - hopefully this bodes well for other subject matter, I would LOVE another Star Trek, Firefly, BSG, anything similar, type of series to come this year or next.
B5 is another thing that is always out there, just waiting. JMS has said he would love to do a motion picture, or even some more TV movies, or more straight to DVD releases of "The Lost Tales". They did the last one on only a 2.5 million dollar budget in 2007, and it was excellent really, the few battle scenes and all the CGI was leaps and bounds improved. The whole B5 world has a lot of legs left in it IMO, and I would love to see someone finance it, or Firefly, for a comeback.
