Sd.Kfz 251 75mm
« on: April 06, 2014, 11:06:05 PM »
We should have the option to take along a 75mm PaK 40 on the 251. The M3 has the same type of thing, why not add it?
Have at it.

If there is an EASY way for HTC to add more gv's in to AH it is by using the SDKfz 251.  HTC could very easily add in these two variants and bring something NEW to AH:

SdKfz 251-9: armed with a 7.5 cm KwK37 low velocity gun use for infantry support (think same fast firing 75mm as we now have on LVT-4, a great town killer). Nicknamed "Stummel" ("stump").  This would be a land based LVT-4, basically, but faster.  Reload rate would be typically be 3-4 seconds.

SdKfz 251-22: 7.5 cm PaK40 anti-tank gun. This is the same gun on the Panzer IV F/2 I believe (or H).  Either way  it would be a formidable anti-tank platform not to be over looked.  It should have the same rate of fire as the Panzers (5-6 seconds).

SdKfz -251-21:  251/21 - Anti-aircraft variant equipped with a triple-mount of MG151 autocannon; early version being MG151/15mm cannon, later being MG151/20mm cannon. This would be a stop gap between the Wirby and M16.  The 20mm guns are already in AH, HTC would simply need to model the mount and upper chassis.  however, it would be very nice to get the 15mm in to the game.   :aok

So there ya have it, three new variants that would bring something not currently in AH (think equivalents), and with minimal modeling comparing to starting from square one.

No, we have wirbelwinds with quad 20mm's. The 251 goes about 10mph faster than the wirb, and has weaker armor. The 151 also doesn't have the range of 20mm on the wirbelwinds ( I believe). Perking it would be pointless.

Actually with the AA SD.kfz 251 in game the Ostwind and Wirbelwind ( which never saw service outside Germany) should be perked IMO.

The Osti is too inaccurate to perk, but perk the hell outta the wirb.  :)

Have you ever checked the actual range of the M16's .50 cals?  Or the actual range of the Wirby's 20mm?  Or the Ostwind's 37mm?

The trade off between the 251 vs the Wriby is simple: 8mph better speed for the 251 or 25% better firepower in the Wirby.  They are both sitting vs attacks thanks to open turrets. Though, the Wirby can shrug off incoming tank rounds better than the 251.  I'm guessing the 251 would have an ENY better than the Osty but worse than the Wirby.

When was the 251 introduced, and where does it stand when compared to the T-34/76, OST and Wirb in updating?  Depending on answer, I say we wait until it gets updated before getting the 75mm PaK 40 added.  Otherwise, maybe they'll toss it in sometime sooner? :headscratch:

Wow I find it hard to believe it has been almost 38 days since our last path. We should have release another 38 versions by now  :bhead

I'm not sure if it even needs an update, it's  rather old, but looks decent IMO. But in cases of other gv's that you say are in line before it, then sure. The 251 can wait a little.

Don't get me wrong.  I'm for the addition of the 75mm. :D  I'm just thinking that it may be easier for HiTech to add it when he updates it.  But if it's something like the T-34/85, then tossing it in before actually updating may be okay. :aok

Yeah I've gotcha, you're not mistaken. I just wasn't sure if the 251 really needed an update. :)
