Counter idea;  Semp, Traveler and Midway have their own BBS away from the rest of us

Thank you for not banishing me as well, Dolbs.   :D

By allowing them read access only.

As stated in reply to CAV when he said the same:

Less restrictive, but still leaves them having potential difficulties asking a question that the person making the original post is likely to see as they question would need to be posted in a new thread in a different forum.

Now who is talking about exclusion?  What's wrong with the idea of the non-paying public only being receiving read access in just this one room and not being able to post in the members only room?

Oh no, don't get the wrong idea, yourself, semp and Midway will be included in your own BBS.

It's all in the aid of greater good, your BBS is just away from the rest of us. We are taking one for you guys excluding ourselves.

I have to say the most adversarial posts seem to come from people who aren't current subscribers and frequently are in the "get off my lawn" crowd.

Sure, they may be able to add some insight to why they left, and what they would like to see changed, but after a few years, we paying members get tired of hearing them complain about how hard it is to find the church that's still up in town.

You kind of tipped your hat when you spoke of church being up.   :old: This is a FREE country ....errr BBS  :devil

A great fail example of what you are talking of here:  http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,361069.0.html One of the coolest players map makers, put out a request for old antiquated AH1 files to help him re make a favorite map from the MA.  What if the one person who had the files or had vital information on those files was unable to read or post in the forum?  Even worst, that one person felt that HTC had turned its back on old used to be subscribers "wascribers" and felt it was no longer his business to help with anything that is now considered dead wood.

:P I still say ignore list (squelch) option is much better.  If you play, you have the option to detune 200 and even squelch individuals.  Everyone is happy, only because now I can still talk to my friends across country and your precious ears are spared.

They can ask the question in any other room .   Just not the members only room.

What you don't seem to get Traveler, is the randomness of the application you are proposing.

Say the criteria was not to allow players starting with Tr.  Whereas Troglodor, Trepidacious, and Treacherous have all regularly been a nuisance.  YOU .... Traveler are thinking to yourself what did I do to deserve this treatment?

YOU always follow the rules and only would like to be kept abreast of community news.  On occasion, you have an idea that you believe would be beneficial, and others seem to agree (although you will ALWAYS have those that do NOT agree).

NO MORE OF THIS "THEY CAN POST ANYWHERE ELSE."  Sounds more like you want country club environment with the doors closed on those you deem unworthy.

Now go sit down and THINK about is there "anywhere else" that you would like to have posted this thread? :headscratch:

I thought   what I was proposing was that all forums remain as they are now, that one additional room be added that only paying members can post in but everyone can read.  That's not randomness, that is specific.

not sure where you are going with that, but the only criteria that was mentioned was that for the members only room that only paying members could post.  Everyone could read.

You lost me on that one as well.

NO, they could post in any room they want, except in the room reserved for members only.  They could read what was being discussed but that's it.

The benefit to the paying members would be that grips, wines, suggestions, and AH discussions would be between paying members with out the biased AH hatters that lurk in these boards now.

That would just cause more trouble for HTC to deal with.  Currently there aren't any restrictions (that I know of) on these forums, yet we have random posts on a weekly basis. Some to other players, when a PM would suffice, or to call each other out.. or to continue a discussion from another thread.  That wouldn't magically change by adding an 'elite' forum.   There are paying players who are just a jerk as some of those who aren't playing currently.  Isolating a fair portion of the board members won't create a perfect utopia for discussion. You will simply see a smaller group of jerks more often  :lol

Ignoring the trolls or non-payers is the best thing to do. "Feeding the trolls" by responding to them, gets you nowhere, and sometimes gets the thread de-railed and locked.  I think that this isn't a good idea anyways. Because it isolates potential players, and the experience of the other players, paying or not.

-1 for this 'wish'.

Maybe Dale.  Think he is the one that determines that.  Read more of what I have posted here.  OR you could do what folks already DO, ignore posts and posters they don't agree with.

  • I thought   what I was proposing was that all forums remain as they are now, that one additional room be added that only paying members can post in but everyone can read.  That's not randomness, that is specific. Ooops, my subscription just ran out this minute, better get that check in the mail so I can finish my answer to what Traveler is saying  Get it yet?
  • not sure where you are going with that, but the only criteria that was mentioned was that for the members only room that only paying members could post.  Everyone could read. You lost me on that one as well. Traveler I don't have any problem with you, or your behavior on the BBS.  I simply do not agree that subscription has any direct relationship to the validity of ANY post, only the content of that post does.  comprende
  • NO, they could post in any room they want, except in the room reserved for members only.  They could read what was being discussed but that's it.  You obviously don't need such a filter, because you already have the ability to ignore any posts that you don't agree with or poster (see any of my other 3 posts especially the one showing where the forums were used to gain vital information that may actually benefit the whole community in the future).
  • The benefit to the paying members would be that grips, wines, suggestions, and AH discussions would be between paying members with out the biased AH hatters that lurk in these boards now.  Again, who is to determine what is and isn't legitimate discussion?  It could be that HTC values the input from as many points of view as possible.  Maybe some of those whines or gripes have helped to formulate the present state of game play.  I have been around long enough to see that whether they were coincidences or not, HTC has made big game play changes that mirrored the opinions expressed on the forums.

And some of the wishes that were implemented were from those who weren't even subscribers at the time.  :D

Most of the points against the idea assume the whole forum would be affected.

Another private room wouldn't change a thing. Wishes would still be in the wish list etc.

Letting people read and not respond would just make them duplicate topics elsewhere.
Better to keep it private.

Traveler can always ask for a private forum and then add any active subscriber to his little private forum and he'll have his "Members Only" forum.
