There will be some VVS P-40s in action in May's FSO! <S>

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Perk the P-40 and the P-39!

The skies are filled with them.  Perking might be the only way we will ever see obscure planes like 51s, F4Us or 190s again.  :cry

Fly the 40 or 39 and you will see all the F4U's, Ponies and 190's you'd like on your 6 and no amount of  :joystick: can shake the mini horde you're dragging. :lol

Actually it is very interesting reading if you go to the source - try to use google translate...

Several points:

I-16 vs Hurricane - Russian pilots clearly preferred I-16 for having much better acceleration, more reliable radial engine that worked with several cylinders damaged, had better ammo. It was quite on-par with 109E...

Later in the war they install Russian machine guns on Hurricanes as they were not satisfied with .303 cal MG.

P-40 - was flown very differently - they burned the engines and run them with different calibration to make the full use of P-40s. The engine was very gentle and requires very gentle handling of oil - general P-40 was underpowered.

The guns on wings were removed and only synchronized were used to improve the performance. P-40 moved to the supporting roles (attack)

If by "were not satisfied with" you mean "did not have much ammo for" you would be correct. They also swapped out the Hissos in the IIc for ShVAKs.

Russia didn't received IIc models with Hispanos. They replaced the MG with ShVAK canons. According to the authors memories they used original  MG for about 3 month and then replaced with Russian.

"Air Arsenal North America" aircraft for the allies 1938-1945 purchase and Lend-Lease by Phil Butler and Dan Hagedorn page 134 states that the Soviets received 1,130 Hawker Hurricane IIc's. That's about one third of all the Hurricanes delivered to the Soviet Union under Lend-Lease.

Ok... than I'm probably wrong. At least according to the interview the pilot states that in hist unit the MGs were replaced with ShVAKs.

BTW: nice that your bring sources + quotes - not many do it.

Yeah, in the I's and IIb's they put two ShVAKs and two UBS machine guns if I remember correctly. In the IIc they just replaced the four Hissos with ShVAKs.
