Razer Surround Personalized 7.1 Gaming Audio Software
« on: May 07, 2014, 08:47:21 PM »
Neat little program from Razor.  It's a software emulation program for 7.1 surround sound using any headphone/earplugs.  I use it at work to listen to music on my stereo earplugs, it does provide a much richer sound than normal stereo but I guess it's only useful if you have stereo headphones/earplugs.  Don't use it at home since my G90 headset already provides 7.1 surround sound but if you have stereo headsets and want a much richer/deeper sound, it's a good alternative than shelling out $$$ for more expensive headsets.

Is it better than the G35 software?

No, because it's a different type of program.  The Razor program basically emulates 7.1 surround sound through software, which is why it can be used with any stereo headset/earplugs and probably will not provide any benefit at all with headphones that already provide 7.1 surround sound.  Though, now I am kind of curious and will try it with my Logitech G90 headset and see if it does anything.  But with stereo headphones/earplugs, I can attest that it does give a much more rich sound.

You can test it yourself on their website.  There is a little applet that lets you test it out before you decide to download it.

The applet sounded nice in my 5.1 headphones, but when I installed the program it just kept asking to plug a compatible headset in. So I uninstalled it.

It downloaded and installed without a hitch for me.

I installed it 4 days ago and uninstalled it today.  No benefit for me.  An associated gripe is the software that installed with it - Razor something or other -  that prompt me to to create an additional account.  I am sure I could have simply went into "programs" and disabled it but it pissed me off.
