 May 8, 1945 - Germany signed unconditional surrender ending World War II. It would take effect the next day.

One German doctor is often cited for saying that the Soviet soldiers raped all the women in Berlin (a hundred thousand) for 3 days.  He goes on to say that the German women started committing suicide and such because of it.  Haven't found many sources to corroborate that.
