possible scam please advise
« on: June 03, 2014, 03:16:06 PM »
So I remember a thread a while back about scams. Thought I would post and get feed back.
I got an email from a potential customer . He wants to buy two ac units and have them shipped to Austria.

Sounds to easy and too good to be true. He wants to pay with a credit card.

Any advise is appriciated.

We have this kind of inquiry quite often.  I work in a motorcycle dealership.  You must protect yourself.  We require the customer to email us a copy of his drivers license and a copy of the credit card he will be using for payment.  Only after that is matched up, we will take the sale and only ship it to the address shown on the license.  If it still seems even a little fishy, we require the customer to fill out an online credit application which will reveal a fraud alert if there is one.

No matter what, the bottom line is, if it does not seem quite right in any way, we refuse the sale.

Do not look at the potential profits, only look at the potential liability exposure.
