At times like these, a little Marcus Aurelius is in order. I maintain one of his quotes as a personal motto, but I heard this one below and only later found it was by Aurelius:
Be like a rocky promontory upon which the waves are continually crashing.
I searched it up because I get a lot of noise coming in as I pursue my purpose. But I maintain my purpose, despite the noise. Clarity around this purpose I call a gift - and so I don't let the noise get in the way. Let the waves break.
Yes, there are crazy people out there, but they're collateral to my purpose, so I neither seek them nor avoid them. Happily, it is rare for me to see them at all. This pursuit seems to keep me out of trouble.
Lately, I've found myself distracted. I have an urge to develop a new type of pie for the good folks of Northern England, but then, usually after a spasm or two and a clean-up, this urge seems to pass. THen I go and fly a Yak-9T and drink until I pass out face down in a pile of my own sick.
Kidding, of course... I never fly the Yak-9T.
