     One of the great results from the people of a free nation, compassion for your enemy.  Not many Nations in history have given back the territory it has captured and repairs the damage it's bombs have done.

They didn't mention his single trip to the eastern side of Berlin to drop candies there as well. That single gesture of good will made russkies complain, and that was the end of Candy bombings.

Nothing much to tell that about. I remember reading this story long ago. East Berlin kids got to know somehow, the Western kids have a candy airlift going on. The word was spread to the pilots, and this hero pilot decided to make a drop on the park on eastern side. russky generals got quite mad about this, and accused allies about everything. So, to keep things as calm as possible, allied authority ordered Candy bombings to be halted
