Heavy traffic causing some stuttering or slowdowns

Your video card only has 512MB of dedicated video RAM.  You can easily run out of that RAM an dforce the system to use system memory, which is going to be significantly slower than dedicated video RAM.

It will depend on your game settings in the "Options->Graphic Detail->Advanced" panel as well as the anti-alias setting in the "Video Settings" menu.

i have also seen a big drop in frame rate lately .currently running a gforce 750 with 2 gig memory ,1600 gig ram, dual core 2.8 ghz cpu windows 7.  i made this upgrade back in may when i first started playing.the frame rate bounces up and down and last night dropped to 10 fps (see attached photo)

There is a vast difference between frame rate drops and "stutters".

Typically, frame rate drops are due to resource issues.  This can be anything from the CPU being taken away to do other things, to your network being pinged by some torrent or other P2P software to some device running out of resources (memory, sound buffers, video card ram....).

Stutters are typically caused by the video card having to load resources which are needed immediately, but were not able to preload, for some reason.

Is there any reason that you are tanking with the ground clutter on?  I know it looks purdy.....  but bet your fps go straight to 60 with one checked (unchecked) box.

interesting chilli . maybe thats why im also having problems spotting eny tanks . i have not found a thread on here from some of the better gvers  who can give advice to on best graphic settings for tank battles etc. perhaps i will open a new thread on optimal setting for gv battles

It's a couple of hours since your last post, so this may come late: How about repair install your Windows without losing any program or file? I know you can't do it the way it used to be able to in XP, but since Vista you've been able to do an "update" installation from within Windows. The prerequisite is that the version you're going to install has to be the same you're having on your machine. In plain English that means, that if your installation disk is Win7 which you have updated to SP1, you'd have to uninstall the service pack before "updating". And of course every update has to be redone.

I read up on it prior to installing. Microsoft said that you probably won't be able to use "upgrade" if you are installing the same version.

After reinstall, so far so good. I get 60 FPS while flying and about 30 to 50 when in a gv. I think some of that in a gv is because I went back to my 8 to 10 year old video card, Radeon 3850. Also I have it set at 2048 (?) instead of 1024. Not sure if I should have done that. Well actually it was the default video settings and I just left it.

I may drop it to 1024 and/or go back to my newer Geforce 660 TI. We'll see.

I've thought I've had it fixed so many times and I think previous efforts weren't in vain. When I reflect back I think it was the Anti-virus program that caused the issues.

I read up on it prior to installing. Microsoft said that you probably won't be able to use "upgrade" if you are installing the same version.

Funny... I've done it a couple of times and the feature has been around since Vista, documented on dozens of techie websites with 101's. And the only trick is to install exactly the same version! That means, if your installation media is pre-SP1 and you have updated to SP1, you have to uninstall the update first to be able to do the "upgrade" option during the reinstall. And I remind that the "upgrade" option is available only when the installation is started in a working Windows environment, not the normal boot-from-the-DVD way.

I had one more issue, my modem was going bad. Finally have a new one after AT&T cancelled 2 appointments without checking to see if I actually had a good connection.

  Did you read skuzzy's reply?  I would put the 660TI back in and check again.  You may have a vidcard going bad and did all the reinstall for nothing. 


  Now that you have a clean install put the newer card in and check offline framerates,once you get your modem problem resolved,do an online check.  Doesnt surprize me you're getting lower FR's with that 3800 card,you could try GVing with 512 texture size and see if that improves the FR. Run hirez may be pushing that ATI card past it's limit.

  Is the 660 a 1 gig or 2 gig version?

I believe I will reinstall the 660. It's 2gig. I'll let you know how it works out.

I reinstalled the 660 TI. At first something seemed not quite right but better on the ground than the 3850. I think the graphics just weren't as smooth as I thought they should be but not the action, if that makes sense. It was wee bit uneven. When I read up on how to install the video card one post said that Windows would take care of the graphics, well in fact two posts said that. A 3rd said to do it differently. Download the new drivers and then delete the old drivers or vice versa. Then install the vc and load the drivers.

However, being lazy or impatient I just pulled the old one out and installed the new one. Then downloaded the drivers for the newer card. Like I said it was better and I landed 5 kills in a Werble. And like I said something wasn't quite right. That was Tuesday. Wednesday I get home and the catayst manager was giving errors. Windows didn't delete that.

On Tuesday I looked into the control panel to delete the Catalyst Manager but nothing was there that said to delete the program just change the program. On Wednesday I finally looked at "Change" and in it was an option to delete. When I chose to delete, it also removed drivers. After that things seemed much much smoother but I haven't been in a horde or a fighter since. So it's a bit early to say everything is well. Still thought it sure seemed much better. Time will tell.

If I had to do it again I would have uninstalled the drivers like the 3rd post said.
