Looking forward to this....maybe even more than Star Citizen, but too soon to tell.

ED is so much further along in development than SC it's really tough to draw any meaningful comparison.  It looks to me like while SC's universe won't be as large, it's going to be designed as opposed to the procedural generation for ED and No Man's Sky.  Kind of looks to me like John Henry vs the steam engine and I'm fairly excited to see which game is more fun.

It's going to be really interesting to see what both games look like in their released form.  I am probably going to wind up playing both.

reminds me of many of the things you could do in the old MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies.  Obviously not as big, but you could do all what was shown in the trailers.

Might have the system for this, definitely got my attention with it, thanks for showing.

Flossy is a beta tester, so his her husband :old:

We were both Alpha backers so have been testing for some time now.  The standard Beta was released just over a week ago and there is still a lot more to come, but it is already a very playable game.  I have been mainly trading so far, but hoping to add exploring and mining in future.  As I recently traded up to a Hauler, which can carry 16 tonnes of cargo rather than 4 tonnes in the Sidewinder starter ship, I have been visiting more distant stations from the starting area.  I have come across some really nice looking stations, inside as well as outside - one even had palm trees growing in the docking area   :D :

I backed Star Citizen very early on, during the first couple of days it was available, and came into Elite later, based on posts from Flossy here a while back.  It cost me 150$ to get in when I did, which was less expensive than those at the start, and now similarly, it is 1/2 that at around 75 bucks, with a ton more stuff than when I bought in.  It is VERY worth it.  It is further along than SC/Sqrn 42/etc, and is excellent, excellent, excellent.  Well worth the 75 bucks - between this and some of the new DCS stuff, there is a lot of good stuff out there to hold us(me) over until the new Aces High beta comes about.

If you like Space sims, the old Elite, or just something very well done with a vast, vast scope - spend the 75 bucks on this before any other game, even including Star Citizen, of which the Arena Commander can become boring quickly, although it is fantastic as well in it's own right.

Lusche, that's unfortunate re hardware.  I know that the new nVidia Shield gaming tablet can handle it steaming from a PC, PC Gamer did a review on Elite with the Shield.  I don't think you would need a massive upgrade to get it running, hopefully sometime you can swing that, as I have a feeling that AH3 will probably need it as well.

Article on Elite/Shield, there is also several recent Elite articles on PC Gamer in the last 10 days or so if anyone cares to look.

Interestingly, using the mouse for guiding your ship in Star Citizen gives you a massive advantage over HOTAS players.  The reason for this is the guns are on gimbals, and the first couple inches around your target xhair in your Hud in your ship in SC, it actually just moves the guns, not the ship thrusters.  You are able to be much, much more precise with aiming your weapons using the mouse to do this.  Think of it like trying to aim in a first person shooter with a joystick or a mouse - 99 percent of players would agree I think that a mouse is much more precise and accurate for this purpose.  In SC, using the joystick to maneuver the ship, the gimbal xhairs just don't track as precisely or accurately as they do with a mouse.  I've sent in numerous emails to the development team, saying that if they enable trackIR for the purpose of gimbal aim, the HOTAS guys will be able to counter the mouse guys using trackIR combined with their sticks to aim.  I hope they do so, and the responses have been positive from most when I've brought this suggestion up.  Time will tell.

LOL  :lol  Fortunately, the trees don't get in the way of docking, but they do look good.  :)

Yes, I use my Warthog HOTAS and Saitek Pro Pedals to fly around.  It is possible to use keyboard and mouse, but more and more players are going the joystick or HOTAS route.  In fact have you tried shopping for a joystick or HOTAS recently?  So many have been sold to Elite players (possibly SC too) that they have been difficult to get hold of!  There are some complaints that yaw has been nerfed, but I think it works well enough when lining up to go through the 'letterbox' at a space station or to land on a pad.

Yeah, as those of us in Elite call SC - Turrets in Space!   :lol  In Elite, shooting is more like in AH where you need to actually fly and follow the target, and much easier using a joystick, though there are some who manage equally well just using a mouse I believe.  From what I have heard about SC though it sounds like there is not much flying involved, instead swinging the ship around to follow a target?  I don't know for sure as I've never tried it.  :)

Got into the new beta about a week ago... and am LOVING it.  Looking forward bigtime to see other features implemented, mainly the "exploration" portion... that is what I want to "do" in this game!

This is the main reason why I'm getting much more excited about Elite.  Looks like Roberts wants to replicate the War Thunder / WoT model of success with SC by opening it up way beyond the hard core simmer.  Can't blame him as its a fantastic business decision that expands his market options considerably (e.g. porting to consoles, etc).

The Early Access buy in price for Elite is getting in my price range now so I will be pulling the trigger soon.  I'm currently busy spending time with the IL2 BOS Early Access which has been great so far even if the game is only 63% complete.   :aok

Just to clarify - it's not Early Access you would be buying into for Elite - its Standard Beta!  It is by no means a finished game and still has some glitches, so don't expect it to be perfect!  Too many are coming into E: D expecting it to be a finished game and then demanding their money back (non-starter!) because it doesn't meet their high expectations - yet!  Just remember it is a beta and that there will be problems, and just enjoy it for what it is during this testing phase.  Don't worry too much about losing ships etc, as everything will be wiped anyway when the Gamma version is released.   :aok  :D
