Wing Stripe/Panel Demarcation Too Stark???
« on: August 20, 2014, 09:52:44 PM »
I have tried adding noise, adjusting spec maps, etc.   For some reason the wing stripe just looks too.......................... .......stark.   Or something.  Like it is not *ON* the wing but slightly above it.

I still have a noise layer to add to the silver part of the skin, but I am not sure that will help.

What am I doing wrong?

(IGNORE THE MISALIGNED BUMP MAP AT THE WING ROOT.  HAVE NOT GOTTEN TO THAT YET.)

You might be just up against the limitations of the modeling design, idk.

I generally tend to ease off the opacity of the markings, to just a couple of % above the level where you can see through them to the layer below.

Stripes look too narrow as well.

Perspective.  I think they are correct.   I ran this a thousand times.

You might be right, for sure.   If you can show me how they are wrong I will certainly fix them.

Take a look at Jo-Baby in the game and tell me if they are wrong.   Will definitely modify.  <S>

Add a filtered layer of 10% black over it.

You need to make sure all your detail, shading and weathering effect layers are above the yellow stripes in the layer order. Its no good doing that stuff and then putting some new stripes above it.

You could try desaturating the yellow to make it less bright. In PSP you would select the yellow area, go to the Adjust menu, then Hue and Saturation, then Hue/Saturation/Lightness. In the resultant window experiment with negative values for the saturation slider. A setting of -100% will turn the yellow totally grey so I'd guess you would need something closer to -10 to -20%.

Thank you, sensai.  <S> Will try this.

Will try all suggestions above.  Not trying to diminish advice.   Thank you all.

We've had the discussion here a few times over the years.  This is the best I can illustrate it.

Position is wrong.

I AM NOT against adjusting the stripes....................                    There are no black outlines on the borders so that shot is suspect.        (I will look at it though. Thank you, Guppy!)       <S>

Try this one.  It's a 31st FG 51 but the 15th AF yellow bands were theater ID bands so standard on 15th AF fighters

I still think you need to widen yours just a bit.

It's the perspective of the skin viewer.    Fisheye.

Look at the released skin in the game and see if you still think they are too narrow.  This is the last thing left to fix if they are.
