IL2:BoS
« on: September 24, 2014, 09:05:34 AM »
(Disclaimer:  This thread isn't to get into a pissing contest between IL2 and Aces.  IL2 is not intended as a replacement for AH.  Please consult your physician.)

This is a pretty decent run with Stukas and some air cover trying to take Rynok.  (I was getting laid as this was being recorded, so there is remarkably little cussing!)

http://www.twitch.tv/pand_twb/c/5174676

Attack run commences around 9:30, bombs out just before 10:00.  Dogfight around 17:00.

It's cool to see another flight sim out with some decent objectives... they still fall well short of the capture mechanic in Aces (imho) simply based on the lack of inserting troops to capture (You just land HE-111s to supply in Il2. Meh)

Lots of fun, if you own the game we play on the Eagle's Nest.  Drop by and fly with us!

Honestly Ive been seriously tempted but I had such a bad experience with COD I have a real problem trusting anything with the "IL2" name on it. That particular game was an out and out criminal offense in its release state and if it ever got any better it was due to individual players writing their own mods to it. Last time i checked the regular game, which I still own, there was nobody playing it.

I understand this is a different bunch behind this game but the anger still remains. Well not "anger" but distrust. I found the IL2 community at the time like the bunch that all drank from the good ministers kool aid mix..

I'll admit your video is very pretty and the damage model looks terrific. Its really nice to see a bomb drop and have it look like an actual bomb. I'm a admitted fan boi of the Aces High flight model. Everything about the game is perfect for me except the dated graphics and the drop in players. I could live with both cause I like the community, or whats left of it, so much but a difficult work schedule makes joining up again impossible. So again Im looking at IL2BOS, at least until the next version of AH comes out.

If anyone feels they can convince me to buy the game please do relate. But thats an awful lot of money for a title that has already burned me. Thats a lovely video, thanks for sharing.

If these guys do a job just as good as they did with Rise of Flight (probably the best WW1 sim since Red Baron) then your fears are for naught.

ROF is a nice write. I have it tho I dont play it much, "just dont game much anymore".

My only interest is multi-player. AH spoiled me with its multi-player, in game comms, ease of just dropping in and taking off in any aircraft you like. Screw it, Im going to rejoin and fly again. :D

It IS the complete package as far as multiplayer sims are concerned.

Rich, I had the same experience with Cliffs as well, but you should give it a whirl again now with the latest updates/mods, it's pretty impressive what they've done now IMO.  Simhq has some good reviews of the updates/mods for it.  Google Team Fusion mod for COD, and it'll give you links to the various places you can get this mod.

Thanks for the replys guys. I doubt the mods would work with a Steam release. Meanwhile I joined AH again and will look at BOS. After a few weeks of not being able to fly I had a few to many yesterday and freaked  :uhoh. I might be retiring soon and would like a few games to play. :salute

Why do you say that about Steam?  I bought COD on Steam specifically to try out Team Fusion's mod, which has been extremely popular, and completely changed the game (again, see Simhq for the reviews of the latest mod from them).  It works with the Steam release the same as the first release, although with both it is a bit of a chore to install Team Fusion (4 seperate downloads that need to be installed sequentially, but it isn't all that hard to figure out or do).  Seriously, you should try it out, it's an incredible sim now with TF, the single player and multi are both fantastic.

Either way, BoS will be great as well, but if you want a Battle of Britain sim that is very close to what BoS is going to offer soon, CoD is now the one to fly, much unlike it's first versions/attempts/releases.  It was truly awful from everything I read and saw.

I doubt the mods would work with a Steam release.

Mods will work on Steam released games.  One of the reasons why I started to get my mods from Steam instead of Nexus for Skyrim is that it is easier to keep the mods updated through the Steam Workshop than it was through Nexus.

Ack, did you ever try the Nexus Mod Manager?  Is Steam easier/better than that?  Did you ever do Requiem?  It's balls to the wall tough... one-shot kills from arrows and spells... but holy hannah, awesome gameplay.

If Steam is a cinch, I may go ahead and give it another go-round.

BTW... if you haven't tried the Total Conversion for Oblivion (Nehrim).... good lawd, do so... http://sureai.net/projects/nehrim/?lang=en

(They are working on one for Skyrim as well)
