Anyone playing DayZ Standalone?
« on: December 18, 2014, 01:14:35 PM »
I just joined as a alfa backer this morning for $32. After seing the vids from Arma2 dayz mods and even the alfa standalone it seemed fun enough.

I've had it for quite awhile have't played it in awhile. I think H1Z1 may kill it.

Played back when it was an ArmA 2 mod.  When it went standalone I wasn't motivated enough to pay for it.  Do they have a fix for the dolts seeing you, switching to another server to move, and then relogging onto the server you're on to get behind you to basically move invisibly?

Not sure which game of this genre will wind up being the dominant one.  Off to google H1Z1.  The Forest looked decent in passing.

If you think you are having a 1v1 in the Main Arena, your SA has failed you.

Im lost from lostland with controls and stuffs. So servers ... which ever server you join your position is saved? Is there a 'boemian official server' or they are all player created?

There are official servers which are all connected to the same hive, or database. So if you find stuff, log off, come back the next day and log on a different official server you keep the stuff and the player that you had previously. On the mod there are also private servers that have their own database, not sure if they have those added in standalone yet... gave up on it awhile ago.

I used to play it a lot, but its been pretty frustrating lately. my character keeps getting deleted. Ill play for hours, find great stuff, log off, get back on later and fresh spawn..

One tip when your first learning the game try and find a 24/7 daytime server and if you do find yourself alone at night don't turn on that flashlight!

As a player of the mod for 500+ hours and a player of the Standalone for 500+ hours I have to say one thing Frenchy... You wasted your money on the standalone. Luckily, you're reading this from the post of one of the the biggest DayZ nerds on these here boards. There is one thing that puts the standalone on it's knees and spanks it.

Arma2 DayZ: Epoch is an unofficial open source client and server mod based on DayZ Community Edition. Arma2 DayZ: Epoch Mod brings more RP to DayZ Mod with; Metals based economy, NPC Traders, Lockable Vaults, More roles, and more.

Arma2 DayZ: Epoch is set in a future time after the Great Infection. Humanity is slowly returning to the wasteland, industrious survivors have begun to join together in small groups and rebuild society. Small camps of merchants have started to pop up to do business with survivors who collect goods from the wasted remnants of civilization. Wholesalers have landed on the shores offering imported goods to aid the rebuilding effort.

All is not safe however some vestiges of infection still remain and rogue bandits still roam the countryside preying on unsuspecting survivors.

Survive, explore, build wealth, make your way through the harsh environment and assist in the effort to rebuild, or burn it all down its your choice, live in the Epoch.

Base building, Cars, Lots of guns, helicopters, traders. All in Epoch and 100% better than the standalone. I personally play hero, meaning I have no trouble giving some of my spare food to some guy who needs it. I don't KOS, I simply avoid if I suspect he's hostile.

EDIT: And in Epoch, one gun rules over all. The DMR. Mags are easy to come across, and can be bought a traders. If you find one of these, TAKE IT TAKE IT TAKE IT!!!  :)One shot unconscious/bleeding, (below the collarbone) two for the kill. A player you don't want to pass by? Fire one shot into him, he'll get knocked out, breeze past him and wish him the best. Two if he is a confirmed bandito.  :D

EDIT V 2.0 If you play epoch, know this chart by heart. This will tell you who will give you extra beans, and the ones who you want to kill ASAP.

(Image removed from quote.)

They stole that from another mod... I love dayz origins :(

Standalone is in 50% alpha, that's probably why it pales in comparison with Epoch. Epoch is indeed superb when I watched the vids. At any rate those games seem to be better enjoyed when you have a group of friends ... which I do not. How do I play Epoch, I download Arma 2 and install dayz commander and Epoch mod?

You need arma 2 and arma 2 operation arrowhead. So it's best to just buy arma 2 combined ops. Once you download both of those run each at least once so that it is able to write all its files, then download DAYZ commander and epoch.
