Hey coalcat1, if you haven't heard of A Perfect Cirlce. It was Maynard's first band before tool. I personally enjoy this band a lot more than Tool, although they sound similar.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVXTmav24Wk (one of Maynard's best vocal songs)

All of these songs are representative of bad that really understood musicianship.

By the Way Brooke, I saw a STYX song you posted on there. They really are a great band and still even sound amazing performing live today.

I agree.  I saw them live a couple of years ago, and they seemed to hit every note (even in complicated guitar solo parts) and every drum beat just as if you were listening to the studio cut for the album.  Many bands can't pull that exactness off live.  They seemed amazing proficient.

I'm not sure you will agree (and perhaps in a few days I wouldn't agree either) but they reminded me of a mix of Bruce Springsteen (say Hungry Heart - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxptQ_75mQw) and Genesis from the 70s (perhaps: A Trick of the Tail  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJIVuinJlsU) .

Maybe just perhaps influences that I am picking up at 4 in the morning....

I love Rush.  What an awesome band -- expert musicians, all.  Some of my favorites of theirs:

Brooke, I cant get past Rush being a high school dance band!

Neil's younger bother and I hung out for awhile just when he joined Rush after their first drummer developed health issues.

Neil played in another high school band at the time called Flood,or fluud I cant remember exactly.   Just to make you really jealous,I sat behind Neils kit in their Mom's basement!

I'm not a fan really but I think Neil is about 1 of the best drummers still living!   You should read his book,he's quite open for such a shy guy!

   :salute

PS:   Fav song is easy money by King Crimson!

"I'm not a fan really" is criminal given your background!  Its a outrage!  ;)

King Crimson is interesting.  Of their material, I think that I like some songs out of "In the Court of the Crimson King" best.

Well In the court was the first of many great albums,I prefer them after Sinfield's influence left!

I'm afraid my tastes in music are much different from most.

Got tickets to see em again for the 2nd time in a year, very good live.

Coalcat and whoever else likes good rock.

Check out this new album I found. The band has been around for a while, but they took a different approach on this new CD. And I have to say it is some of the best rock I've heard from the "new" age of music.

IMO they sound like Pearl Jam but I like this singer better and I think the songs are better. I love finding new musicians and bands that can really play good powerful soulful music. Every song on this album are good.

I'd recommend turning this up loud in a car.
