261 Squadron Thunderbolt II
« on: January 23, 2015, 03:58:12 PM »
Thanks to Lyric1 for finding me some of the info for this P-47D-25 skin.

The RAF's 261 Squadron was active in Burma from February 1943 flying Hurricanes on ground attack sorties as well as escorting Dakotas on supply drop missions. In September 1944 they traded their Hurricanes for Thunderbolts which they flew until the end of the Burma campaign in July 1945.

I think this is the aircraft we're looking for

Looks great!

Why did the RAF use those different roudels sometimes? They look similar to the Aussie/ Kiwi markings.

To avoid mis-identification as Japanese.

Very nice. Love the subtle weathering on the bare metal.

Take one I off, and it will be the proper Thunderbolt. Because when you sat Thunderbolt II you are saying A-10

I believe since the Brits don't use the P-# system the razorback P-47 was called the "Thunderbolt" and the bubbletop the "Thunderbolt II". Much like they do with the P-51, The B and C were "Mustang III" and the D was "Mustang IV"

Looking good.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

I don't think anyone could mistake the two aircraft. I mean one is a big, heavy, well armoured, single-seat bomb truck with lots of firepower and the other.....ummm, never mind.  :D
