Historical U.S.A.A.F. Bomber Achievement
« on: March 27, 2015, 05:38:33 PM »
I know as of now HTC has the 25 and 50 Missions Achievement award. I would like to suggest that it should be taken farther.
My suggestion is that there should be three categoies of Achievements for the U.S.A.A.F Heavy Bombers. Each achievement is for the B-17's, B24's and B-29's
1) For the B-17's 25, 50, 100 and 157 missions achievement.
Reason: as the war went on, escort fighters became more advailable, the number of missions required for crews to fly went up.
a) New Achievement Awards should be as follows: 25,50,100 and 157
The B-17 named Ol' Gappy #42-40003 of the 379th BG 524th BS flew the most combat missions of 157. The 157 missions can be called the Ol' Gappy Achievement Award.

2) The B-24's Achievement should be as follows: 20,25,50,100 and 130,158 (however some B-24's may have flown more missions then 130.)
a) The 20 mission one is to Honor James M. Stewart who was a B-24 Pilot with the 445th B.G 703 B.S in which he served as the Commanding Officer.
He flew 20 Combat Missions while with the 445th B.G. 703 B.S. The B-24 he flew was named  Nine Yanks and A Jerk, number 41-29118. After which he was promoted to the rank of Major then transfered to the 453rd B.G as an Operation Officer. While he was with the 453rd B.G. he did fly more missions but upon his orders they were not credited. Some sources say he may have flown up to 40 mission, (I guess he figured if he was credited 5 more missions, Washington might order him back to the states. While with the 453rd B.G. He also flew a B-24H named Male Call, number 42-52154 of the 734th B.S.  This achievement can be named The Capt. James M. Stewart Achievement
b) For the 130 mission we can name it the WITCHCRAFT achievement. WITCHCARFT number 42-52534 of the 467th B.G. 790th B.S. completed 130 missions.
As for the 25 Missions not sure what B-24 achieve that, one source say HOT STUFF completed 25 missions first. I will check more on this and also more on B-24's completed missions. Upon resreaching more I found that a B-24J-165-CO number 44-40485 The Lady Corinne of the 456th B.G. 747th B.S. 15th U.S.A.A.F. flew a total of 154missions.

3) There should be completed B-29's mission, I do not much on this. However I can find out.

I really think there should be three categories achievement awards for each U.S.A.A.F. Heavy Bombers because each Bomber had a different level of missions to fly as the war on.
