played the game for about 20 mins last night. fps stayed at normal 59 to 60 fps with default graphic settings. i used a wirlb and plane in this test, 1 factor was only about 50 to 60 players online ,2nd factor i did not engage any players. ran the task manager showing both cpu cores and ram. 1 cpu core was somewhat high but only reaching 100% on occasion with no fluctuation in fps in game. will try again when more players are online and more icons available .

Recently I had to replace my hard drive and I chose to do a new clean install of win7 rather than from backup.

I took the opportunity to clean and vacuum all heat sinks and fans. My video card has 1G and system has 8G with a 64bit OS and a 750w PS.

I was having sporadic poor frame rates from a new install of AH2 and only detailed terrain and detailed water enabled. It was driving me nuts because I had my services reduced to 28 before launching the game. I even had my GPU clocked up to 920 from 900 and video ram speed matching system ram. I was still getting frame rate issues and then occasional exe error lockups to the desktop. I tried reducing the GPU core speed gradually 915, 910 and so to 900. No luck.

The problem:

I had set my custom FoV to 116, my monitor is 24 inches.

When I reduced it to 106, I was able to up my GPU speed by 10-20. My frame rates were back where I expected them based on my game play before replacing the hard drive. No more exe errors to the desktop.

You never know, try reducing your FoV if you have set it to a higher custom number.

Well now i did it. went and cleaned my fan and fins around the cpu and have lost my video signal completely.
I am typing this using my ancient laptop which has barley enough gpu to display the screen so playing is out till i figure out what went wrong. the only thing i unplugged was the fan around the cpu , nothing else was touched . see you all when i get my pc running again  :bolt: :bolt:

Double check that you've plugged the cpu fan correctly. Some motherboards won't let you boot unless the cpu fan is working. And on some motherboard the cpu fan connector is right beside a similar case fan connector, easy to choose wrong. Although the fan will rotate fine, it doesn't show as a cpu fan which will prevent booting. How do I know? I've fallen for that trap...

well i was kinda hoping to get lucky but i believe now i shorted out my motherboard .while working to remove the cpu fan my body ground became detached trying to get 1 of the harder to reach screws out . i was hoping to luck out but this seems to be the only answer i can think of. i continue to have no video signal with my video card or the vga output  :(

a couple of things. Do you have a separate video card? If you do is it seated well? Sometime they really and I mean REALLY have to be pushed in. I had an issue once and only seated mine correctly after getting mad and trying to push it THROUGH the mother board.  :D

If you DO have a separate video card, have you tried running with out it and using the on-board video of the mother board?

You say you have no video, but does that mean that the computer seems to be booting correctly? Did you double check the CPU fan plug as Bizman said?

Speaking of separate video cards, have you connected the power cord(s) to the video card? And if you have, double check that they really are video card power connectors instead of those for the motherboard. And further, if you have a modular power supply, check that all the plugs are properly seated at that end too.

well folks i have tried everything from the suggestions , it looks like time for a new computer. i will contact a local who builds computers for gaming. after having this computer for 6 years now it was time for an upgrade anyways. the 2 core 2.4 ghz cpu would of been the next upgrade and not much better cpu will fit in the current motherboard . with the i5 , i7 processor's  to choose from and the nvida 970 graphics card with 4 gig gpu im hoping to be able to run full graphics with the ah3 when it comes out.
guess im kinda tired of having to deal with graphic issues its time to get something that will play this game the way i want to play it.

bizman  when i cleaned the fans i never touch the video card . the only fan i cleaned was the cpu fan .  i appreciate all your help you have given me so far. its my guess  i either shorted out the motherboard or the cpu itself trying to get that 1 hard to reach screw holding the fan to the cpu cooling fins . in this case the only thing i touched was the cpu area nothing else was disconnected but the cpu fan . im guessing its my fault  when i lost the body ground trying to get that 1 screw loose. guess i was unlucky this time

As a test you might trying removing the video card and the on board mother board video take over.

Things have a way of working out. You seem really eager to learn the game and get better, and so a new computer will only help you accomplish this goal even more efficiently. Sucks you have to buy one, but I can't think of a more fun way to "have" to spend money.

Six years is a good age to retire a gaming computer. BTW is the local builder is like me he'd probably like to check what can be reused in your current rig after he's built and billed your new one.

One thing to check is that if you haven't disabled windows update from messing with your drivers, at any time you can get a bad driver through it. If that happens you have to use driver cleaner and reinstall your graphics drivers.

Happened to me just recently on one game box (actually the same one I made the advanced build thread with).
