A recent thread here asked about the role of CMs. Hopefully, without embarrassing my superiors, I can shed some light on my job. I am a member of the FSO team. We work for the head of the team: Warloc. The team is divided into two halves: Admins (the architects) and Setups (builders). The Admins design the event. They come up with the plane sets, the active fields, the side divisions and they score the event. They write the objectives. The Setups are the builders. There are 4 of us: Mystic2, Imadot, Stresser and myself. We work in teams of two. The Setup types in blue in the event and the Bouncer in yellow. We build the arena on Wednesday before an event. Depending on the complexity of the design, the build takes between 2-4 hours. On the night of the event, the Setups run the event, enforce the rules as best we can and upload the logs. So, figure 3 hours on Friday. We work 3 weeks a month and every other month. That is, one month I am setup and can’t fly. The next month, I am off. The next month I work as Bouncer. It seems simple but, it is a staggering amount of responsibility. If I don’t build the arena or run the event, 300 players have a bad Friday. More importantly, HTC trusts us with an awesome amount of power. We are literarily taught that if Hitech or Skuzzy come into an event that I am running . . . It is my arena. (I have never had to push that thank goodness). If I mess up or abuse my authority. . . the punishment comes from Hitech or Skuzzy. It’s final. You see, this is our hobby but, this is their livelihood. I can do amazing things like re-open a field, fly in God’s eye, watch the raw logs, warn, mute or eject... I can’t unstick your plane from the mud or bend the rules. Sorry, just not within my authority. I mention this because we are always looking for good people. I also ask that one of the Admins tell you about their job: all of the blood, sweat, tears and frustration. And we do this every month for the love of you guys. We don’t want any thanks, we get that every frame from all the people that we help. What we do always want, is someone with the commitment to the game and others to set your feet on this path. Like the movie said: “Oh yeah, it’s worth it... if you are strong enough.”
