Semi grounded for a bit..
« on: July 12, 2015, 12:16:35 PM »

Looks like my machine is on it's last legs. over the past few weeks the performance has steadily declined to the point where im lucky to see a 10 FR. A lot of time I find myself in the tower before I even see or hear shots fired, or on the opposite end, a con will go screaming by, and then I hear hits 3 seconds later and am towered. for some reason everything is 10x worse on fester MA. I've turned off all candy and bought myself a little time, but it's getting so bad that the game is just no longer any fun, just pure frustration.

I guess it's good timing because the update will be out in 2 weeks right ? anyway, maybe i'll take a crack at building a rig from scratch to take full advantage of the update.

So all you techies out there, please let me know your preferences for parts. video cards, mother boards, drives, etc..  where do you prefer to shop, what operating system ?

Check out the Hardware/software section. Lots of machines specked out and lots of tips.

What Fugi said.

As for the update, it might need a totally differently balanced rig than the current one, or then again not! Nothing certain has been said yet, but it seems the video card will play a more significant role than in the current version. It would help knowing your current setup: A step-by-step upgrade starting with a decent video card might be enough, assisted with a nice power supply. A DxDiag output would help.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

it would help if you posted what kind of computer hardware you have.  some can be reused even from name brand.  but the expensive parts, mobo, cpu, ram, vc and ps most likely will have to be new.

What Fugi and Max said.

Spend some money, dude, we need people who are dedicated enough to fly with 10 fps.  There's a whole new world out there for you, for not a whole lot of cash.

I've set a hard $1000.00 (for tower) budget. as hard as I try I just cant justify any more that that. to get the biggest bang for my buck, im looking at lightly used mid grade Machines that I can upgrade.

My brother in law (MARK4) has this one or the version they were selling 18 months ago. They have 4 options as builds, his is the $799 one and it run Aces High with out a problem. They have support as well as fulling testing the machine before they send it to you. Haven't heard anything bad about these guys. A good box at a good price for those who don't want to build their own.

this is for a intel. you would need to add windows, a video card, and maybe a ssd.

windows ten comes out in two weeks.

whatever you pick make sure the parts are compatible and will fit, you have enough power, and you know what you doing.

have fun.

 :salute

ps another stick of 8gb ram cant hurt right?

I play this game on hp pavillio p7-1254. A6-3620 quad core processor. Amd 6530d integrated graphics. 8gb ddr ram. 1 tb hard drive.
It cost like $500 new w/20" monitor. I have no issues keeping high fr. Except in the clouds over a10 on that one map. Barring that, 50's are the norm. I have settings pretty high imo and running hires graphics. Seems more than enough computer for half your budget. Not available any longer hut you can find similar ones no worry. Or build one for more but it will no doubt be better.

yup  if you can hang on  i would wait. the gtx 750 is what i had in my old system and had some issues . the new AH 3 will require more gpu ram so i would look at getting 4 gigs gpu of ram in the video card. the 1 thing you have to think of is how soon you will have to do this again. upgrading every few years will cost you more in the long term. perhaps your old system is worth saving if we knew what you have till you are ready. planning is the key and this thread is the best step to give you ideas.
1 Of these days you will regret shooting me down.
