I tried trackir, I Hated it. DIfferent strokes and all that, but I was expecting more out of it. Even though this may have been when the trackir 4 was still new. At any rate, I hated it and much prefer hat switches.

So I've been using TrackIR for about three weeks now, playing around with it offline in AH, and in other offline games like X-Plane, FSX and Rise of Flight.  I figured out last night, fussing around in the MA with Jester13 (Joker13....someone 13) that I was finally getting the hang of it.  I realize that I'm not the quickest study, but it wouldn't surprise me if you have to give it that much time before it begins to become familiar.

The biggest advantage I see with it is that I no longer have to worry about canopy frames blocking my view.  There is also a more realistic sense of position than you get with a hat switch, especially if your hat switch views aren't well thought out.

the longer you've played without it, the longer it will take before you like it!
I played for 8 years without it, it took me about 6 weeks to finally get used to it!

I used the hat switch for something like ten years before I got my TIR. At first it is kind of odd, but soon it started working for me. Then I started modifying the profile until it fit me. Now I can't fly without it. In fact I don't even have views mapped to my hat switches. I do have center and pause. ( F9, and F12 I think.) One thing that kept messing me up was the roll axis. I turned that off in the beginning, and have never felt the need to turn it back on. Everyone is different so I would recommend that you try several different profiles and then tweak the one you like best to suit you. I believe "The Fugitive" has collection of TIR profiles.

Another thing, you can set up your default forward view so that it is the default forward view in TIR. Just center the view in TIR, pause, set the forward view to your preference, press F10, un-pause, and that should be the default forward view whenever you hit the center button.

i have a big  dead band for all axis, so gun-sight stay put when i look forward, I also killed the roll axis, it confuse my orientation.
