I just got off the phone with my Honda Rep.  Running the generator or having the generator will effect the aluminum parts detrimentally because they will corrode more than if it was in no salt air.  His statement was specifically "If you run the generator or have it in salt air it will no longer last forever".

I take that as a positive statement and an honest one because he and I both expect this product to last forever in normal conditions.  I pinned him down and asked, "If you do not have ocean spray actually hitting the unit, but you have it in salt air, how long will it last?".  His answer was, "10 years".

His name is Nobe Takagi.  Yes he is Japanese.  He has never lied to me.

So, amortised over ten years it is just over $114 per year.  That is a good deal if you ask me.

Thanks to your and your rep.  I am going out tomorrow and overnighting with the kids.  Fingers crossed the generator I have runs well, it should now.  I will think about this as a backup, need to have a look to see where I'd put it.

Just heard that the "usual suspects" we raft up with are keen to meet up tomorrow and then on Sunday the raft up moves to another location to watch the power boat race.  Should be an awesome salty weekend.

We're going crazy here at home getting last minutes things packed, groceries bought, etc.  We have a 17 day break from work so will start the adventure in the morning….no real plan yet as to where we're going to go.  I'm kind of liking this retirement thing.  :devil

Nice!  Post some pics.

We (my son, his friend and I) stayed out last night.  This was just before sunset:

Then when it got dark we went below and fired up "Finding Nemo" in the air conditioning.  :)  Generator worked like a charm finally.  lol.  I need to change and upgrade my house batteries though, weak.

I guess Colmbo is out at sea now.

No pics yet.  :(

I have now replaced all four of my batteries (cost completely ridiculous, but that is boats) and after work this evening the whole gang will meet up at the berth and we will head out for another weekend of salt life.  Love it. :rock

Nope, in the harbor.  I guess I could upload a pic of the teak I spent 8 hours cleaning yesterday….and will spend about that long oiling today. :)
