The Aplha Terrain, So Far
« on: September 16, 2015, 08:08:54 AM »
I was on the Alpha this weekend for a bit, offline, in a tank, and I gotta say: I love new terrain with the swaying trees and grass, the pretty flowers and the rock outcrops. Shoot, the whole scene at ground level is totally new and completely awesome. With my new graphics card I'm getting 59-60 fps even with all the detail turn up. the explosions are awesome, too. I'm not a true ground-pounder like some of you, but I really appreciate what's been done so far.

Only one gripe: can they make it so that a single bamboo stalk doesn't stop a Panzer cold? Please? It's been that way forever, and just befuddles me.

Sometimes Nooby, such wishes have already been considered and maybe even on the healthy to do list, and then other times, the issue is much more coad intensive and / or game play influenced.  Whatever HTC decides to do, I agree the banana plant (which it has been called) and maybe other objects have a collision state that has been murderous to perked vehicles (flipped Tigers, etc.) in the past.  Those players that derive more pleasure from the chase and challenge of ground attack, than the pure beauty of the environmental immersion, will quickly come to the same conclusion that it should have been fixed, without any consideration of how much work resources, or how damaging the change could be to the cover aspect of gaming that they enjoy more.

If it is merely a nuisance, maybe it could be explained in those terms above; the downsides of making this kind of change.  To put it all into perspective, I was told that our dearly departed Bentnail, referred to it as "death by lettuce"  :rofl and that was the extent of his comments.  I could roll with that, chuckle everytime I do it from now on, and just up another vehicle.

PS  Missing you very much Bentnail.

"Death by lettuce". I love it. Yeah, I get it about the coding thing, if that's what the drawback is. I certainly don't know...was just wondering out loud.

I tend to think about objects like that as a subtle reminder that you should actually be in a fighter aircraft.    :D  :aok
