Heya whiskey,

I've been using a set of "TekNmotion brand -model: TM-YB100A yapster" headphones/adjustable boom mic with volume and mute button

I've had them for 5+/_ Years now and not one single problem or glitch.... I think they offer them in a USB model as well... I paid roughly $39.00 for them at newegg

Turtle beach P11

Comfy fit, no issues with mic. Ear pieces uses standard 3.5mm jack and mic uses USB.

I use the Logitech G930 wireless. Pretty damn good for gaming.
This is the one I choose!
It came today, ( I was all happy and stuff). Opened it all up, pretty simple looking, still I like to at least look at the instructions,  NO INSTRUCTIONS!
No Biggy though,, it really is plug and play,, it is also USB, I had meant to get one for the jacks on back, I have a surrounded sound setup and piggy back jacks for my old turtle beach so I wasn't sure how well this was going to work, but it was here so plug it up!
As soon as I plugged it in, my surround sound stopped playing!
Before I forget, it comes with some wiring for the charger and a cool part is the port for the remote plugs into it, so it's setting on my desk, very handy,, I had to plug the headset in for a charge,, but after about three minutes they worked while still plugged up to the charging cable so I'm off to the sky for some testing!
Crystal clear Mike !  I was impressed, talked to a few people and they all said it was much better than before, I didn't get time to try them out on the ground for directional sound service but from what I could tell in the air, they work great, flew one sortie, re armed once, then landed 4 kills,, nice little hour in my Jug!
So the upside
The sound is good, the Mike works great!
The down side
My external speakers won't work while the headphones are plugged in!
I'll have to play with this a bit and see if I can fix it so they will all play.
The reason is because I don't always like to fly with the headphones on my ears. But I need the Mike close enough to use, I found out pulling the USB plug out turns the speakers all back on, but then my Mike isn't gonna work!  Minor problems!
, it's darn good for the price!
If it's all you use, it'll be perfect!
And I'll adapt to the new setup
One last thing,, the earphones have a very good seal on my head, I cant hear anything else with them on,, no phone , no wife,, no doorbell!  Lol. Like I said, there great!   Lol
If you don't have both systems , this is a very good set!

this is why I posted the model of head phones I use, I got everthing...surround sound, music in the head phones in game as well, everything works without dropping any part out..

I will never use a USB headphone setup,  just my preference, Whiskey...

edit: also I can control the volume through my 7.1 surround sound as well in my head phones, and the mic works regardless....... I use an ASUS Xonar DS soundcard on 2 of my machines.I quit using my Creative sound X-fi soundcards...... gave 2 away to 2 AH players

My external speakers won't work while the headphones are plugged in!

I have it set up in AH so that my external speakers output game sounds and vox sounds come in through the headphone speakers.

In Windows, go to the Control Panel and click on Sounds, you should see your sound card and G930 listed.  Right click on the sound card and select "Default Device" and then right click on the G930 and select "Default Communication Device".  Now you're all set up in Windows, just need to set it up in AH.  In AH set it so speakers come from your external speakers and then for headphones select the G930.  You should now get game sounds through your external speakers and vox sounds through the headphones.

Like Masher posted, the Roccat Kave or the Kingston Hyper are probably the two most popular headsets under 150$ for good reason - in fact the two shops I use in Canada, which cater to everything but also have an entire division of their companies dedicated to gaming/enthusiasts, both claim that the Kingston is their best selling headset, and the ones they print off the fewest RMAs for.  (Linus Tech Tips from Youtube came from one of these companies, NCIX).

On Chalege's advice, I too bought the Sony MDR, and use it on one of my systems with a Snowball stand alone Mic.  For about 170$ total for both, IMO it blows everything away, but I also use a mid priced DAC on that computer, but even without it, those Sony head "phones" offer an incredible bang/$ @130$ Canadian, which is only around 100$ USD, but you do need a separate mic, so it's either a desktop one like I'm using, which works great, or that "mod mic" which you can attach to any set of headphones and turn them into a "headset" for PC gaming or whatever.

The missus uses my handmedown Sennheiser Game Zeros.  Both the Sennheiser Game One or Game Zero are really good sets, and I was a long, long time user of Senns before trying the Sony MDR's out.  I bought my first set of Sennheiser headphones for Aces High when it launched in beta back before the year 2000.  They still work, and work really well.

Also, agree with Lawndart, a 100$ish dollar sound card can make quite a difference over some of the on board sound offerings out there, but ymmv depending on your headset and so on.  The Sennheiser "Game" models for example need a fair bit of power to push them so they work right, which many onboard sound systems aren't optimal for from what I've read, but I always drove mine with a Creative SB Z and they worked great.

Man you guys must not have kids! Every nice headset I ever had while they were young had maybe a two month lifespan! I've been on cheapie Plantronics or Logitech behind the neck jobs for years. They work and I probably never paid more than 40 bucks. I have a nice set of phones but they're in a case hidden from everybody!

That's something I've never understood, people allowing their kids break their stuff. Or pets, for that matter. I'm currently trying to fix a rather new laptop with milk spilled on the keyboard. The father's reason to get a €700 laptop for a seven year old boy and his little brother aged three (the milk spiller) was to make them watch Netflix to get some time for his own. When I told about it to my daughter (17), she remembered her and her sister having had strict computing schedule and that she got by no means traumatized by that. And they never broke any of my stuff, ever.

I used to have a very nice pair of Beyerdynamic 990 headphones at the time of AH1, when my kids were small. One fine day they broke by falling one time too many off the shelf where I had them stored. My own fault, now I have a hook for them.
Quote from: BaldEagl, applies to myself, too
I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.
