Mic went on my Roccat Kave 5.1 and am thoroughly enjoying the Kingston Hyper X headset.
I know I am late to the party, but I too had a Kave.  It broke, and Roccat stood behind their warranty and sent me a new one without question.  I love it.

These Headphones are VERY comfortable and have Great sound Quality...

Paired with this card and microphone...

http://www.amazon.com/Blaster-Performance-Headphone-Forming-Microphone/dp/B009ISU33E/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1445984568&sr=1-1&keywords=sound+blaster+z

A "Gaming" headset rarely has the same sound quality as a dedicated headphone setup. This also allows for mic./headphones replacement as needed. YMMV.

I'm looking at this headset because I'd like something styled like the older David-Clark aviation headsets.

The Kingston X (they have a new model inbound soon too) is by far the most recommended headset out there in the gaming world, especially for the $.  I have one hooked up to one of our other gaming PCs and it's been great for 70$ CDN, about 50$ US on sale.

I tell anyone the best bang/$ if you want a really, really good pair of phones is the Sony MDRs in this thread - Challenge has the same model too I believe, and they are truly a Pro quality set of phones and are ridiculously low priced for what you get, I got mine for 100$ USD or so IIRC.  You do need a mic though, so either a modmic or a stand alone mic, which is usually a bit better than typical gaming "headset" mics anyway, just much more $.  A good DAC is great too, you don't need to spend a pile of $ on the X7 either, there are tons of other options out there which work great, like a Felio E10k or some such.

Sony MDR 7506 that I mentioned:

Sony MDVR6 which is slightly better (only slightly):

And only if you get a 600 ohm headphone, or Bluetooth headphone will you need an excellent DAC like the X7 (as Gman said), but even then you could probably find one cheaper.

Sony has discontinued the 600 ohm headphones, and I could not find my AKG or Sennheiser 600s listed anymore, but they do make broadcast pairs with microphone.

Still using my Logitech 930s after a couple of years.  The only thing that sucks is Logitech removed the voice morph features from the Logitech software.

I bought a Sennheiser PC 360 headset for about $250.00 a few years ago and have never regretted it. I can hear all of the sounds in game and have a conversation outside of the game and never have to remove the headset. It's pricey...but worth it for the long haul.

I'd recommend getting a USB headset for AH.  This will allow you to have vox come in through the headphones while allowing you to use your speakers for game sounds.  That is the main reason why I bought a USB headset, hated having game sounds and vox come in through the same speakers.

I Defo need vox in my headset, people I fly with are proper mental, if my Mrs heard the conversations she would ban me from AH

Kave headphones are very good and surround sound works.

G35's were nice but surround sound was not very good

Only problem with Kave is they have square foam segments in headband which hurt your head after a couple of hours, I put Velcro foam strip from G35 over them.

Microsoft Life Chat.

10 years and I am on only my second set.  First set died to wife ack.

A serious contender.  I would need you to pay me $5000 just to look at another set.  Yes, that impressed!!!!

Yeah, morphing can be funny at times. I use hardware FX instead which includes voice morphing as one trick, but I find the radio static enhancements more useful.

I've thought about trying out what AckAck is doing too.  The Kingston Cloud 2's are USB, and I have a really good speaker setup for desktop PC which I don't even use right now (Klipsch pro media).  Do you just set that up through the AH sound control panel AckAck, which device does what etc?
