A comparison that includes the "3dmark06" shows the older card crushing.

I am hoping for the sake of many, that gameplay will be somewhere around where it is now or improved somewhat for the marginal gpu's that HTC is testing in house.  That along with the information from our rigs in alpha, probably helps a little to see how much "juice" should go into the final punch bowl of AH3 beta.  So maybe it is a little too soon to put that video card on your Xmas list this year.  You might do better with a gift card on your list in the amount of the $$$ price of a premium value video card.  Then after beta, you can make an informed decision on where that $$$ cash would be best spent.  :aok

My question is whether the new alpha is made with code that caters to the older card's strengths.......which are the newer card's weakness.

What has been seen so far, has shown that alpha has taken more advantage of the "strengths" of some video cards..... and certainly all newer cards are not "stronger".

Try this link: http://www.gpureview.com/Radeon-HD-7870-card-677.html it details the elements of the cards and offers an option to do side by side comparison on other cards in their database (probably a bit dated though).

Yep....been using that site and others.

Most of my comparisons are between cards with similar power consumption which shows how similar the 7870 is to the G9-270.
