I don't like the maps where I have to fly over a sector to get to another airfield...the ones that have a vbase between everyone.
Lately if I fly, I can't fly for very long, so I don't like spending that much time to get to a fight.  If someone needs that much alt,
they can come from a farther base...  :)

I don't know what size of maps those are, never pay that much attention..  :D

The conventional wisdom was we would meet and furball over the Vbase as the Vbase became the focus for combat as it changed hands. Turned out most people ignore them and want to furball over the other guy's airfield. So yeah, we have too many airfields too far apart for today's crowd with a short amount of time to spend looking for a fight. Or attention span to put up with the time investment. This only really works on TT island with those three spokes of Vbases and a large airfield at the end of each spoke. Late nights you can literally use that island as the arena. Make the airbases un-capturable and flipping the map becomes capturing some percentage of the Vbases.

In my opinion (take it for what it's worth), if all the players actually wanted to fight, you would be able to find fights no matter the map size; you would see hotspots of action where players will gravitate towards. If you shrink the maps to force players to be closer together, those that don't want to fight will be the ones leaving instead of the ones who can't find a fight.

The players themselves need to change...not the maps.

True, but I always thought it was strange for there to be more bases than players.  :headscratch:

I think he does..

He cared enough to fix it beginning a few months back, manually every map reset.

I've wondered if the player die off is intentional. The thought being, AH3 will require a major computer upgrade and most players do not have it, or so it seems by posts. Imagine having a steady 500 players on AH2 on a Monday, then Tuesday it shifts to AH3 and 400 do not have computers that can handle it. In either case HiTech will need to build a new customer base, going this route means they won't start with a harsh drop off.

Just a guess. And this is not a harsh accusation of HiTech, just a solid transitionary business model: What strategies are employed to upgrade the client base to a new technology?  In any case...

+1 for smaller maps.

you do have a valid point here . but i believe most of the players are aware of this. If we add the fact that AH3  is still in alpha and still a ways out gives most of us time to plan ahead. from what i am seeing and reading there is not a real high cost for the upgrades necessary to run the new version depending upon what you want.

as for the topic of this thread  i have to agree , the larger maps do make it more difficult to find fights. this occurs mostly after the prime time 8 pm cst and by 11 pm cst the numbers drop considerably. except on weekends .

We could keep the large maps in rotation with fewer bases.  The biggest issue here is the base to player ratio.    Take some of the large maps and wipe out some bases.  Just gray them out until all the other bases are taken or something...

I do believe we need to have smaller maps but there is a massive truth in this statement.

How many times do we see a great fight develop and then the cry goes out that the FH is down or the carrier is sunk....fight dries up. :(

The Players have always been the problem. Not the game.  The modern player is especially  a wimp.  You can't always "win".  You have to break some egg's to make an omelet.  Failure is how you learn in this game.  I have never understood how folks expect to get better at something complicated like air to air combat when most of them just run away and hide in the ack.

I made a thread about this very same problem years ago. You would be surprised about how many "furballers" came along and said crap like "oh another thread trying to tell people how to play the game". Game is full of hypocritical SOBs.
