Video card settings: where are they?
« on: February 02, 2016, 06:14:11 AM »
I've read a few threads where people are talking about video card settings. I'm told my PC should run the beta, but I can't get it to look any good or stop stuttering.

Stupid question: where do I access my video card settings? I've found an nvidia icon but it only has firmware upgrade stuff, no detailed settings.

The MSI afterburner icon I have is a PC performance display. (MSI? I thought I had a nvidia card?).

I even typed "video card" into the search bar that comes up when you click the lower left circle (windows 7)... Nothing.

Any ideas? Thanks, Buck

Did you make the mistake of copying all your "settings" from AH2 to AH3?  That will cause some problems.

If you are having performance issues, a good place to start is posting the output of the DXDIAG utility.  Just need the portion which contains the CPU, video, and sound card information.

That and the number one cause of video stuttering is a texture setting that is too high for your available video memory, OR not enough system memory period.

With Aces High you are better off just letting the game control your settings.

just for info only, I copied all my settings from ah2 to ah3.  I dont have a problem with ah3.  when it goes live, I'll pay attention and copy only those files I need.

You are having problems you may not be aware of.  We listed the files you can safely copy over from AH2.  There is a reason we provided that list.

Once we go live with AH3, the live version will convert the settings from AH2.  Right now, we have to have everyone using the settings to make sure we did not break anything.

People who are copying over the entire "settings" folder are creating problems for us.  Please only copy what we said is okay to do so. http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,373697.0.html

Buck, for getting the most trouble free experiment out of your video card, go to the Nvidia settings panel (in the Windows Control Panel) and check that all game related settings are "application controlled" or something like that indicating that your video card will be plain vanilla until a game changes the settings if needed.

For getting good looks and stop stuttering you then have to play with the video settings in the game itself. Without knowing your computer specs it's hard to tell how much compromises you'd have to make, though.

Stuttering can be due to many reasons, apart from what Skuzzy said about copying your settings the culprit can be a peer to peer torrent up-/download or other net dependent background activity. Skype, your anti-virus, any program checking for updates (RealPlayer and such can do it on a constant basis!), you name it...
Quote from: BaldEagl, applies to myself, too
I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

Thanks guys. I did copy over the views folder, maybe others. I'll uninstall ah3 and reinstall to be sure.

I'll also follow the directions to make a dxdiag when I get home.

You don't need to reinstall. Just delete your current settings folder from the beta.

Will the reinstall hurt anything?

If it can be screwed up on a PC, I'll manage to do it. Microsoft should hire me to test things for idiot proofing.

Right off, I see you have not installed the native sound card drivers.  Your computer is using the generic audio driver Windows is happy to use, but was never intended to be used for games.

That will cause a host of issues.

Thanks. I Googled that and don't know what it means or how to do it.

I simply bought this thing, followed a few directions, turned on AH.
