Yak-3 ENY adjustment
« on: March 01, 2016, 12:02:46 PM »
ENY for the Yak-3 is at 18, but should be more like 10.

Very similar number of kills and results to the F4U-1A, which stands at 12 ENY:

Tour 193:

F4U-1A: 3441 kills / 2169 deaths  (1.59 K/D)  #6 for most kills in tour

Yak-3: 3221 kills / 1977 deaths  (1.63 K/D)  #7 for most kills in tour

There are some fighters like the K-4, 38-J and 152 that have a few dedicated pilots that skew their K/D quite a bit, but the Yak-3 is much more user-friendly to the average Joe.

These are the only fighters in the game that I have a negative kill ratio (all-time stats) against:

1. Tempest:  40 kills / 79 deaths  (- 39)

2. Yak-3: 55 kills / 74 deaths  (-19)

3. Me-163:  6 kills / 22 deaths  (-16)

4. Me-262:  29 kills / 43 deaths  (-14)

5. F4U-4:  99 kills / 113 deaths  (-14)

All of the above are perked, except the Yak.   Not asking for it to be perked, but it has a very modest ENY value for it's performance in LW.

The WIKI says the -1A's eny is 15, but at any rate, you don't think 1 20mm with 120 rounds, and 2 weak 12.7's with 600 rounds compared to 4 .50's with 1600 rounds isn't reason enough for the difference?

I've only flown it once or twice but it was enough to see that it's better than an 18.0 ENY.

There are several planes that should have their ENy adjusted, 190D should be ENY 5, it is as good as the pony and LA. YAK-3 should be a 10 due to the guns. Spit XIV should be a 15 (or the same as the 109K-4.)

Dora can't carry the ord the P51 can and match up quite evenly as fighters.....and M2s are easy mode guns compared to the doras...if you drop the doras eny to 5 you need to perk the Pony.

Yak 3 is a FOR SURE needs lower ENY....you see more yaks then N1ks these days and close to spits and LAs.

Like Krup, only flew it a few times....immediately thought the ENY needs to be lowered (Same as the Brew :devil )

Yak3 doesn't carry a bomb, lacks ammo, and has short legs... And some nut put the prop on backwards. But the aircraft flys like it's under some kind of voodoo spell allowing it to defy gravity and air resistance, with superb visibility and a small frame making it seem like it has an adamantium skeleton..  :old: Perk the little Devil!

The dora has on the other hand 2x 20 mm cannons w a lot of ammo. It has twice as much ammo as a spit XVI and all guns close to the center line.

Doesn't mean anything when both the P51 and Spit have better over the nose view and can aim better.

The AH Wiki is outdated.

Consider a few advantages the 1A has over the Yak:

The 1A is far better at BnZ gunnery and is the ride of choice for some big time pickers.   The Yak cannot afford to spew out rounds and needs to saddle up, if only briefly, to make a kill.  This puts the Yak in a more dangerous position for every kill, because the chance of getting picked is higher.

The 1A is far better at killing bombers, which typically yields a better K/D than achieved versus other fighters.

The 1A also carries a 1,000 lb bomb, resulting in some EZ-mode GV kills, which is another way to boost the model's K/D.

And yet, they yield the same results.  One is 12 ENY and the other is 18.  Over the years, planes have had their values adjusted and this is a case where it makes sense for the Yak's to be lowered.

Unless the damage modeling is adjusted for the Yak3, it has a higher survivability quotient than many rides in similar furballs. The ENY may be governed by the small ammo load. Otherwise it is in the same down and dirty furballing class as a spit16. The other Yaks seem to absorb damage to a higher degree, the Yak3 seems to be set to the highest degree of the Yak stable.

Here is a thought on Russian hybrid plywood aluminum fighters. Of about 9000 La5 in combat, around 2500 were lost. In 1942 the largest number were lost, 1460. The Yak3 reached front lines in the year only about 800 La5 were lost in combat.

As for the small size of the target (damage area) argument, the La5 and the Yak3 are very close in size with similar speeds.

Okay, lets say you are right.  What exactly does lowering it really do?  A few more tenth's of a point when you kill it and a few tenth's less when it kills something?  Occasionally not being able to up it when ENY gets out of hand?

What is the grand payoff?

No grand payoff, only putting planes where they belong within the ENY system.

It would often be quite a bit more than "a few tenths of a point" for me, as I don't fly EZ mode planes like the Yak-3.   :D
